JKPUF, Civil Society Forum Unite for Pensioners’ Rights in Handwara,Launch Anti-Drug Campaign

Handwara,Jun,03:The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) and Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh Pensioners United Front (JKPUF), District Kupwara, organized a significant programme today at Handwara, bringing together members and representatives to deliberate on pressing social and welfare issues concerning pensioners and society at large.
The meeting witnessed the participation of nearly 50 members from both the Civil Society Forum and the Pensioners United Front. On this occasion, 12 new members were formally inducted into JKPUF, further bolstering the organization’s grassroots presence in the region.
Key representatives who graced the programme included Shaikh Bashir Ahmad, General Secretary JKPUF/CSF; Mir Fayaz, Provisional President JKPUF; Manzoor Ahmad Mir, District President PUF; Malik Gh Hassan, District President CSF Kupwara; Gh Nabi Mir, Chief Patron PUF/CSF; Syed Maharaj-ud-Din Geelani, Provisional General Secretary PUF/CSF; Arshid Mohi-ud-Din, Joint Secretary PUF/CSF; Gh Rasool Bhat, Vice President PUF/CSF Kupwara; Ab Ahad Bhat, Accountant; Syed Aniyat, and several other notable members.
A significant highlight of the programme was the dedication of a pledge towards a Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India). The representatives resolved to launch an anti-smoking awareness campaign, starting from their homes and extending to their respective villages. “It is our collective duty to safeguard the future of our young generation and work together for the betterment of society,” the representatives stated.
Mir Fayaz presented the agenda of the programme and welcomed the new members into JKPUF. In his address, he asserted that Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh Pensioners United Front serves as the voice for voiceless pensioners, vowing to fight for their rights and opposing any government proposal to construct an old-age home in Kupwara district, a move he termed as unnecessary and insensitive.
In his presidential address, Shaikh Bashir Ahmad expressed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and dedication towards this noble cause. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Pensioners United Front to address all pension-related issues on a priority basis, reaching out to every pensioner in the region. He passionately stated that the organization, under the leadership of the dynamic and visionary Abdul Qayoom Wani, has the potential to effect meaningful change and positively influence the socio-political landscape for pensioners and society.
The programme concluded on a hopeful note, with members pledging to continue their advocacy and social welfare initiatives in the days to come.
