Fire Guts Cowshed in Handwara Village; Indian Army’s Swift Response Averts Major Damage

Langate,Dec,28:A fire broke out in a cowshed at Mugdam Mohalla of Chottipura village in north Kashmir’s Handwara area on Sunday morning, triggering panic in the densely populated locality.

According to locals, the blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit from a nearby electric pole. The flames quickly engulfed the cowshed and posed a threat to adjoining residential houses. Villagers immediately raised an alarm and sought help.

Personnel of the Indian Army stationed at Langate rushed to the spot and promptly initiated firefighting efforts using fire extinguishers and a water bowser. Their timely intervention helped contain the fire until the Handwara Fire Brigade arrived and joined the operation.

“The quick action by the Indian Army ensured that the fire did not spread to nearby homes,” a local resident said.

While no loss of life or injuries were reported, officials confirmed that the cowshed, along with stored grass and fodder, was completely destroyed in the incident.

Residents expressed relief and gratitude over the swift response of the Indian Army, which prevented a potentially major fire incident. Authorities have advised people to remain vigilant and ensure proper maintenance of electrical installations, especially during the winter season.
