Handwara Convention: NC Stresses Statehood, Rights

Handwara, Dec,27:Rajya Sabha Member and senior National Conference (NC) leader Choudhary Mohd Ramzan on Saturday said that his party will never compromise on the demand for restoration of Article 370 and 35A, reiterating that the NC continues its struggle through constitutional and democratic means.

 

Addressing a workers’ convention at Sheikh-ul-Alam Environment Hall, Handwara, Choudhary Ramzan said the restoration of statehood and special status remains the party’s top priority. He said these issues have been repeatedly raised in Parliament, reflecting the sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Targeting the BJP, the NC leader said that good governance means equal rights for all citizens, alleging that minorities have faced discrimination under the present dispensation. He also questioned the celebration of Good Governance Day, stating that governance should be measured by justice and equality.

 

Choudhary Ramzan said the NC-led government is facing financial constraints but is actively pursuing approvals from the Centre. He informed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently met the Union Finance Minister to seek financial packages for development and welfare measures.

 

On statehood, he said a delegation had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who assured that policies are under review to strengthen local governance in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed hope that a positive development may take place soon after 31th of Dec.2025 as per the positive response of HM Amit Shah.

 

Choudhary Ramzan said it is time that party workers should prepare for the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections, encouraging youth participation and effective use of social media.
