Cow dung, garbage dumped on roadsides paints a grim picture of the Bandipora district

Bandipora, Feb 22: Huge Piles of Cow Dung and garbage dumped on roadsides in different villages of Bandipora presents a grim picture of the district to the travellers as authorities have failed to clean the roads, lanes and bylanes of Bandipora.

People in several areas of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have polluted the roads by dumping heaps of garbage and cow dung on roadsides. Locals of said areas have appealed to authorities to identify the people and take action as per law against them.

They said that garbage has piled up and even cow dung can be seen piled up on the roads as the local municipal committees have failed to maintain and upkeep the cleanliness of these roads in Bandipora.

They said that similar scenes can be witnessed on Srinagar-Bandipora road near Nesbal and Saderkoot and Sopore-Bandipora roads as well because of the callous attitude of the local administration towards cleanliness of the roads especially the Department of Rural Development who are duty-bound to ensure cleanliness in rural areas.

The locals said they brought this issue to the notice of the concerned department several times, but no action was taken to date. According to locals of these areas, many households are putting heaps of garbage, Cow dung and other waste material on the roadside posing threat to the community amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Residents of Sumbal, Saderkoot, Nathpora, Garoora and adjacents have appealed to District Administration Bandipora to take strict action against those households. An officer said that strict action will be taken against those who dump garbage and cow dung along the roadside in the district.

Locals appealed to the district development commissioner Bandipora, to personally look into the matter and help resolve this problem at the earliest.
