Kupwara,Sept,28:Five people, including a three-year-old child, were killed and seven others injured after a passenger cab skidded off the Teetwal-Simari road and plunged into a deep gorge near Simari in Karnah on Monday.
The accident triggered a rescue operation, with police personnel, rescue teams and local residents rushing to the spot. The passengers were rescued and shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar, where doctors declared five persons brought dead.
According to BMO Karnah Dr Arif Khawaja, the deceased were identified as Mohammad Idrees (32), Hamza Idrees (3), Sayeeda Begum (30) and Mohammad Shabir (55), all residents of Simari, besides Mohammad Arshad (39) of Teetwal.
The injured were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad (33) of Simari, Farhan Khurshid of Teetwal, Javid Ahmad (30) of Kadhama, Aisha Begum (30) of Simari, Aijaz Manzoor (17) of Teetwal, Naveed Ahmad (16 months) of Simari and Sharif Ahmad of Teetwal.
After receiving initial treatment at SDH Tangdhar, the injured were referred to GMC Handwara for further treatment.
Medical Superintendent Associated District Hospital GMC Handwara Dr Aijaz said six injured persons were received at the hospital and kept under observation. One patient was later shifted to Srinagar for further investigation and specialised treatment, while the remaining five continued to receive treatment at GMC Handwara.
The tragic accident has plunged the Simari area into mourning, with the loss of five lives leaving families and the local community deeply saddened.
Following the accident, the District Administration and Kupwara police.Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Shrikant Suse and SSP Kupwara along with Syed Al-Tahir Gilani today visited Seemari in Karnah Sub-Division, where a tragic road accident claimed five lives and left several others injured.
During the visit, the DC and the SSP inspected the accident site, took stock of the situation and met the bereaved families. They expressed deep grief, extended heartfelt condolences and assured the families of all possible support from the District Administration.
