Srinagar,Sept,23 : B.Sc. Forestry graduates have raised concerns over the existing recruitment rules for the post of Forester, demanding that specialized forestry education be given due recognition in the selection process.
The protesting graduates said the present eligibility criteria allow candidates with general qualifications to compete for the Forester post, while a degree specifically in Forestry does not, according to them, carry any additional weightage or preference.
The graduates said they spend several years studying specialized subjects including Silviculture, Forest Management, Wildlife, Forest Mensuration, Agroforestry and Ecology, which they believe are directly relevant to the duties of a Forester.
“Everyone is eligible for the post, but a degree specifically in Forestry carries no weightage and no preference,” the protesters said, arguing that their specialized academic training should be appropriately recognized in recruitment to forestry-related posts.
They maintained that their demand is not aimed at depriving other eligible candidates of employment opportunities. Instead, they want the recruitment framework to acknowledge the specialized professional education of Forestry graduates.
The protesters questioned the purpose of specialized Forestry education if graduates trained specifically in the subject receive no preference while applying for posts directly related to the profession.
They have urged the concerned authorities to review and update the recruitment rules and introduce appropriate weightage or preference for B.Sc. Forestry graduates in the recruitment of Foresters.
The graduates appealed to the government and the Forest Department to examine their concerns and take suitable steps to ensure that specialized forestry education receives due recognition in future recruitment processes.
