Bandipora, Sept, 24:SKUAST-K, through AICRP-Biological Control, Division of Entomology, in collaboration with KVK Bandipora-II (Gurez) and ICAR-NBAIR, Bengaluru, organised an awareness programme on biological control and eco-friendly pest management for farmers in Gurez.
Around 80 farmers from different parts of Gurez participated in the programme. The farmers were guided about safe and sustainable methods of controlling crop pests in crops including potato, maize, peas, rajmash, wheat and vegetables.
Dr. Hilal Ahmad Malik, Head KVK Bandipora-II (Gurez), stressed the need for affordable and location-specific farming technologies. Prof. Sajad Mohi-ud-Din, Principal Investigator, AICRP-Biological Control, highlighted the importance of reducing unnecessary use of chemical pesticides.
Dr. M. Sampath Kumar of ICAR-NBAIR shared information on biological control and biopesticides, while Dr. Mudasir Gani Bhat spoke about adopting sustainable pest-management practices at the field level.
During the programme, farmers were also provided neem oil, insect traps, vermicompost and quality potato seed.The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Jauhar Rafeeq.
The farmers appreciated the initiative and expressed their willingness to adopt eco-friendly methods for safer and sustainable crop production in Gurez.
