Youth Engagement Boost: SSP Handwara Inaugurates Cricket Tournament at Bungas Stadium Under CAP Initiative

Handwara,Nov 19:Under the ongoing Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025–2026, Handwara Police on Wednesday organized a Knock-Out Cricket Tournament at the picturesque Bungas Cricket Stadium, Kutlari Mawar, aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth engagement, and strengthening police public relations.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Shri Sahil Sarangal (IPS), SSP Handwara, in the presence of senior police officials, local dignitaries, and a large gathering of enthusiastic spectators who turned up to support the participating teams.
The opening match was played between United Sports Jahama and Victory Vipers Mawar, delivering an exciting contest that drew loud cheers from cricket lovers across the Mawar region.
A total of 12 teams from various parts of Mawar and adjoining areas are participating in the event, which is being held in a knock-out format to ensure high-energy and competitive matches throughout the tournament.
Organizers announced that the winning team and runners-up will be felicitated with trophies and cash prizes, recognizing their talent and encouraging greater participation in sports.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Sahil Sarangal emphasized the vital role of sports in channelizing youth energy towards positive avenues. He said that such initiatives help foster unity, discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition among the youth. He further reiterated that Handwara Police will continue to organize community-centric programmes under CAP to promote social harmony and nurture young talent.
Handwara Police reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening police public cooperation and providing meaningful platforms for youth development across the Police District.
