Police Raids in Guloora and Kharou: Dumped Material Seized, Violations Under Probe

Handwara,Jun, 25:In a significant enforcement drive, Handwara Police conducted raids in the village Guloora and Kharou of Langate and seized large quantities of dumped material (Bajri and Sand)from multiple locations.The material, according to official sources, had been clandestinely dumped during day and night hours by a local resident of the area.
While the individual in question reportedly holds a legal permit for mineral-related operations, As per the concern police officer and locals ,that the permit terms were violated, particularly with regard to operational timings and public disturbance.
Residents of the area expressed their deep anguish over the continuous night-time activity. Heavy machinery including tippers, tractors, and JCB was allegedly operated through late hours in the local courtyards causing severe noise pollution and public disturbance.
"Our children cannot sleep properly due to the loud noise of machinery during the night. In this intense heatwave, such unauthorized night activity adds to our miseries," said a local resident, requesting anonymity.
Police officials confirmed that three separate spots were identified where material had been dumped unlawfully during day and night hours, bypassing official guidelines. Prompt action was taken, and the dumped material was seized on the spot.
Speaking to this correspondent, the District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kupwara stated that although the permit holder possessed a valid permission, he violated the terms and conditions laid down in the District Plan (DP).
"A formal notice is being issued to the violator, and his e-service portal has been closed till the complete official inquiry" the DMO confirmed.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Handwara assured that a thorough investigation is underway and all facts will be examined before taking strict legal action.
"The matter is being taken seriously. Any individual found violating public safety norms or environmental guidelines will be dealt with under the relevant provisions of law," the SSP said.
Local residents expressed their gratitude to SSP Handwara for his prompt response and special concern towards public welfare. They acknowledged the police’s swift action in addressing their grievances and hoped for continued vigilance to prevent such disturbances in the future.
The residents and civil society members have demanded to district administration for strict monitoring and enforcement of operational guidelines, especially those concerning night-time activities and environmental regulations.
They urged the administration to ensure that while legal permissions may be issued for business operations, public safety and community well-being must always remain a top priority.
