Pothole-Riddled Roads Cause Daily Suffering Across Valley

HT NEWS DESK

Srinagar, June 14 : Despite being the peak season for macadamization, the Roads and Buildings Department has failed to initiate road repairs anywhere in the Kashmir Valley, leaving the road infrastructure in an alarming state of disrepair.

Pothole-ridden roads across Srinagar and other districts have turned daily commuting into a nightmare for the public. Areas like Rambagh, Sonawar, Natipora, Batamaloo, HMT, Safakadal, and Nawab Bazar in Srinagar are particularly in bad shape, with cracked, uneven surfaces and gaping potholes greeting commuters at every turn.

“There’s not a single sign of blacktopping activity anywhere, despite this being the perfect time for it,” said Aijaz Ahmad, a trader from Srinagar. “Either there are no funds or the authorities simply don’t care.”

The situation is no different in the districts beyond the capital city, with road conditions rapidly deteriorating. Repeated public appeals to the authorities have gone unheard, deepening the frustration of residents who feel abandoned by the administration.

Local voices are growing louder, demanding accountability from the R&B Department for its inaction and urging the government to immediately intervene and begin repair works before the season slips away. (CNS)
