Langate Marathon Promotes Fitness, Sends Strong Message Against Drugs

Langate, May,03:A 5-kilometre mini marathon was successfully organised this morning in the Mawar area of Langate by Hangah Youth Club in collaboration with the Indian Army (Langate) and Handwara Police under the Nasha Mukht Jammu & Kashmir UT Abhiyan.

 

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than one hundred youth hailing from across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, reflecting a strong collective commitment towards building a drug-free society. The initiative aimed not only to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles but also to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse among young people.

 

The marathon commenced from Qalamabad Market and culminated at the grounds of Government Boys High School Hangah Langate. Participants displayed high energy and determination throughout the race, making the event both competitive and inspiring.

 

At the conclusion of the race, ten chest numbers were selected as top performers, out of which three winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates of appreciation. Pankaj Sharma from Udhampur secured the first position and was awarded Rs 10,000. The second prize was bagged by Tahir Aziz from Kupwara, while Rizwan Hassan from Ganderbal claimed the third position.

 

The event was attended by several prominent personalities including former DDC Mawar Khursheed Ahmad Dar, gold medalist and Chairman of Pharou Youth Federation Noorul Shabaz, SHO Qalamabad Sameer Altaf, concern Indian Army Officer, Principal of Govt Boys High School Hangah, General Secretary of Traders Federation Handwara Ab Rashid Malik, along with other civil society members, local youth, and students from various schools.

 

On the occasion, speakers emphasised the importance of a healthy lifestyle, highlighting the benefits of morning walks and regular physical activity. They also reiterated the significance of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, urging youth to stay away from drugs and engage in constructive activities.

 

The speakers appreciated the consistent efforts of the Indian Army (Langate) and Handwara Police in combating drug abuse and organising awareness programmes across the area. The event concluded with a unified message against drug abuse, reinforcing the collective resolve to create a healthier and drug-free society.
