Top Cop Chairs Joint Security Meet in North Kashmir

Handwara, Feb 27:Director General of Police Jammu & Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat on Friday chaired a high-level joint security review meeting in Handwara to assess the prevailing security situation and operational preparedness in Police District Handwara and District Kupwara.

 

The meeting was attended by senior police officers including Spl. DG Coordination S. J. M. Geelani, IGP Kashmir V. K. Birdi and DIG North Kashmir Range Maqsood-ul-Zaman, along with SSP Handwara Sahil Sarangal and SSP Kupwara Al-Tahir Geelani. Senior officers including Additional SPs, SDPOs, DySP Operations, SHOs and DOs from both districts were also present.

 

During the meeting, detailed briefings were presented on the current security environment, counter-terrorism operations, anti-narcotics initiatives, and measures aimed at curbing terror financing and dismantling adverse networks operating in the region. Officials also reviewed area domination strategies, surveillance systems, border sensitivities and preparedness to tackle emerging security challenges.

 

The DGP conducted a comprehensive assessment of the operational grid and stressed the importance of proactive, intelligence-driven policing supported by advanced technological interventions to effectively neutralize terrorist threats. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism, he directed officers to intensify action against individuals and networks involved in aiding or facilitating terror activities.

 

He further instructed security forces to maintain operational momentum through strengthened human intelligence networks, enhanced technical surveillance and close coordination among Police, Army, CAPFs and other security agencies. Real-time information sharing and swift operational response, he said, remain crucial for preventing terrorist activities and maintaining a strong security posture in North Kashmir.

 

Officers present in the meeting also shared field-level feedback and highlighted operational challenges while suggesting measures to further reinforce the security framework.Appreciating the efforts of Handwara and Kupwara Police, the DGP urged officers to remain vigilant, proactive and committed towards ensuring lasting peace, stability and security in the region.
