Handwara, Apr 15: In a significant enforcement action under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the Tehsil Administration Handwara, in coordination with Handwara Police, sealed a medical shop for the alleged illegal sale of restricted drugs without valid prescriptions, officials said on Tuesday evening.

According to official sources, the action was taken during a joint inspection drive conducted across multiple medical stores in Sub-District Handwara. The team, led by the Tehsildar along with police personnel, carried out a thorough examination of sale and purchase records, particularly focusing on Schedule and psychotropic drugs.

An official, requesting anonymity, stated that during the inspection, the team found serious violations related to the sale of restricted medicines without proper prescriptions. Acting promptly on the directions of the duty magistrate, authorities sealed Arwa Medicate, located near District Hospital Handwara, on the spot.

“The violations observed were grave in nature, especially concerning the maintenance of records and unauthorized sale of regulated drugs,” the official said, adding that further legal proceedings for cancellation of the shop’s drug license have been initiated as per established norms.

The drive forms part of the ongoing crackdown under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, aimed at curbing the misuse and illegal distribution of psychotropic and habit-forming substances.

Officials reiterated that such inspection drives will continue across the sub-division to ensure strict compliance with drug control regulations.The administration, along with the police, has reaffirmed its commitment to making Handwara a drug-free zone and warned that any violation of the law will invite strict action.

The authorities have also appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies and report any suspicious activities related to the illegal sale of drugs.
