Kupwara, June 12:In A significant boost to the healthcare infrastructure of Kupwara district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ayushi Sudan on Wednesday inaugurated the region's first private Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) centre at Handwara. The newly established Global Diagnostic and Imaging Centre, located on Bypass Road, marks a vital milestone in bringing advanced diagnostic services closer to residents of Handwara and adjoining areas including Rajwar, Ramhall, Mawar, Kralgund, Langate, Kandi, Pharoo, Qaziabad, and other parts of the district.
The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla MRI machine, along with other modern imaging and diagnostic services. Until now, patients requiring advanced radiological tests had to travel to Baramulla or Srinagar, often facing delays in treatment and additional financial strain.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, DC Ayushi Sudan described the establishment of the centre as a “crucial step in improving healthcare accessibility in the district.” While noting that a government-run MRI facility would have been ideal, she emphasized that the availability of such private services locally would ease the difficulties faced by patients and their families.
"This facility will help reduce patient referrals outside the district and ensure timely diagnosis and medical care. I urge the management to strictly comply with government-notified rates so that healthcare remains affordable for all," the DC added.
The inaugural event saw participation from the hosts of the MRI centre, local doctors, civil society members, and residents, all of whom welcomed the development as a much-needed addition to the district’s healthcare resources.
With the opening of this private MRI centre, Kupwara district takes another promising step towards strengthening its diagnostic infrastructure and addressing the long-pending healthcare demands of its population.
