Handwara Police Achieve Major Breakthrough in POCSO Case

Handwara,Mar,24: In a significant breakthrough, Handwara Police have successfully secured the conviction of an accused in a sensitive case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Police Station Kralgund.

 

The Hon’ble Principal District & Sessions Court, Kupwara, has sentenced the accused, Irshad Ahmad Mir, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. In addition, the court awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Both sentences will run concurrently.

 

The case dates back to 2021 and pertains to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl. Following a thorough and professional investigation, Handwara Police were able to present strong evidence before the court, leading to the conviction.

 

Officials described the verdict as a testament to the dedication, meticulous investigation, and unwavering commitment of Handwara Police in ensuring justice, particularly in cases involving crimes against children.

 

Reaffirming its resolve, Handwara Police stated that it remains committed to safeguarding vulnerable sections of society and will continue to take strict action against offenders involved in such heinous crimes.
