Handwara, Mar 04: A newly recruited militant was arrested after being injured in an encounter that broke out at The gate area of Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said on Saturday.
Officials said the gunfight broke out shortly after joint security forces including the army, CRPF and SoG of Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the area following inputs about the presence of militants.
They said during the rief gunfight, one newly recruited militant was arrested in an injured condition along with arms and ammunition.
The officials identified the injured militant as Abrar, son of Ghulam Hassan Gojri of Azadgunj Baramulla while they search for other trapped militants is on as the police and security forces were on the job.
The official said the arrested militant was earlier a stone pelter with two FIRs already registered against him, adding, later on, he started working as an OGW and joined the ranks recently.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of laws has been registered and further investigation set into motion.
“Police/SF arrest a recently joined militant identified as Abrar resident of Azad Gunj Baramulla along with arms and ammunition in an injured condition during an ongoing encounter at Langate area of Handwara. Search for the other trapped militant is going on. Pertinently, Abrar was a chronic stone-pelters & several FIRs registered against him before working as OGW and joining terror folds recently. Police and security forces on the job. Further details shall follow.” Police tweeted.
Meanwhile, three militant associates of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit were arrested in South Kashmir's Shopian district.
Officials said security forces arrested three militant associates of LeT in Shopian and recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from their possession.
They said that a joint party of Police and 44RR laid Naka at Khudpora orchards following inputs about the movement of aides.
“During Naka checking, the movement of three suspects was noticed who were challenged to stop. Instead of complying with orders, they ran away but were chased and arrested tactfully by the alert joint party,” officials said.
They identified the trio as Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, son of Muhammad Yaseen Dar of Gadapora Shopian, Nadeem Rafiq Rather, son of Rafiq Ahmad Rather of Killbal Shopian and Rouf Mushtaq Najar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Najar of Wangan
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one Pistol, one Pistol Magazine, eight Pistol rounds, one hand grenade, one AK Magazine, 20 AK live rounds were recovered from their possession, they added.
Accordingly, a case under FIR number 19/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Shopian and further investigation into the matter is in progress, he said.
