Srinagar, March 8: A mother-son duo allegedly killed eight-year-old child, whose body was found from the nearby woods in Kupwara district on Tuesday, police said.
Both the accused have been arrested, the police added.
The deceased has been identified as Talib Hussain, son of Manzoor Ahmad Khan, who had gone missing on February 15 from his village Awoora in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.
"Since February 15, the case was being probed by all angles; searches were conducted in wetlands, woods and main holes. Besides, we also use sniffer dogs and drones to get the clue.
However, during the course of investigations, police came to know that one Amir Khan and his mother 'hatched a conspiracy' to abduct and kill 8-year-old Talib," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Yougal Manhas said in a press briefing.
He said due to personal rivalry with the victim’s family, Amir Khan and his mother 'murdered' Talib and buried him in the Awoora woods of the district.
Both the accused have been arrested and further questioning was on.
The body of the child was recovered from a nearby forest area this morning.
