SRINAGAR: In response to specific reports regarding unethical practices and illegal drug sales in the sub-district of Handwara, a special team led by the drug officer of Kupwara conducted a surprise inspection of various medical shops in the Handwara area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district.

During the raid, the sale operations of three chemist shops were suspended immediately.

Additionally, the Family Healthcare Medicine shop located opposite the Jammu and Kashmir Bank in south Handwara was found to be involved in unethical practices and the illegal sale of medicines. Consequently, the inspection team sealed the shop using a departmental lock on the spot.

The drug officer told Headlines Today that the sale operations of all medical shops found to be non-compliant with departmental guidelines were suspended immediately. Furthermore, he emphasized that one medicine shop was sealed with a personal lock for flagrant violations of departmental rules and norms.

The inspection team discovered that several shops failed to produce the necessary sale and purchase records for the seized drugs. Additionally, two chemist shops were found to be operating without qualified pharmacists, which is a requirement for such establishments.

The drug officer issued a stern warning to the pharmaceutical community in Handwara, stating that any individual or establishment involved in illegal drug sales would face legal consequences. Such actions could potentially lead to the cancellation of licenses and registrations.
