Friday prayers likely to be allowed at Jamia Masjid

 

Srinagar, Feb 28: The Union Territory administration may allow congregational Friday prayers at the historical Jamia mosque in old city from this week or next, official sources said.

The authorities have not been allowing the congregational Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid for 30 straight weeks following outbreak of novel Corona-Virus".

“We are mulling to allow the Friday prayers and it can happen this week or next week,” a government official said.

In this regard, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, PK Pole and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar visited the Jamia mosque in the old city and reviewed the "arrangements for allowing" Friday prayers.  The members of the religious body that looks after the Srinagar's Jamia mosque- Anjuman Auqaf Jamia- were also present.

While the mosque was out of bounds for worshippers for congregational Friday prayers, the authorities have allowed the prayers for the other six days at the central mosque.
