Srinagar, May 23 : A major theft case reported from the Nishat area of Srinagar in February has been cracked by police, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of stolen gold items worth nearly Rs 9 lakh.

The breakthrough came after a resident of Pati Brein, Ghulam Qadir, lodged a complaint on February 19, reporting a burglary at his home in which thieves decamped with valuable gold ornaments. Acting swiftly, Police Station Nishat registered an FIR and launched a comprehensive investigation.

Through rigorous groundwork, careful scrutiny of clues, and the use of digital surveillance, the investigating team zeroed in on three individuals: Hafiz Ganie of Shallbugh Ganderbal, Bilal Ahmad Ganie of Asham Sumbal Bandipora, and Bilal Ahmad Dar of Safapora Bandipora.

During questioning, the trio confessed to the crime, and based on their disclosures, the police recovered the stolen gold along with an Alto car (HR13E-9346) allegedly used during the burglary.

Police officials confirmed that the probe is still underway, with efforts continuing to trace any remaining stolen property and possibly link the accused to other similar cases. [KNT]
