Handwara Police Tightens Noose on Illegal Mining, Seizes 09 Tractors

Handwara, Jun, 27:In a decisive move to curb illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minerals, Handwara Police on Thursday seized 09 tractors from various locations across Police District Handwara.

According to police officials, specific inputs were received regarding the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals being carried out in different areas. Acting swiftly, teams from various police stations under the jurisdiction of Police District Handwara launched coordinated enforcement drives. During these operations, the tractors were intercepted while transporting minerals without any valid documentation or permits, thereby violating the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators, and authorities have reiterated their firm stance against illegal mining practices in the region. A senior police officer stated that such operations would continue in the coming days to safeguard natural resources and ensure environmental protection.

“The Handwara Police is committed to protecting the region’s ecological balance and upholding the rule of law. Strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in such unlawful activities,” the officer added.

The general public has also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious or illegal mining activity to the nearest police station or through official communication channels. Authorities emphasized that community participation remains vital in combating environmental crimes and preserving the region’s natural wealth.
