Bovine Theft Foiled in Handwara, Accused Nabbed by Police

Handwara,Jul,5:In a prompt and efficient operation, Handwara Police successfully foiled a bovine theft attempt late Thursday night and apprehended the accused near Mawer Crossing.
According to official sources, a police party from Police Station Qalamabad was on routine night patrolling when, at around 10:30 PM, they noticed a man moving suspiciously with bovines near Mawer Crossing. On being challenged, the individual tried to escape but was swiftly apprehended by the vigilant police personnel.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Ismaiel Badana, son of Gulam ud Din, a resident of Lahikote Monabal. During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the bovines had been stolen from the Puthwari Nowgam area, and the accused was attempting to transport them towards Qalamabad for illegal sale.
Following the incident, FIR No. 20/2025 under Section 303(2) BNS was registered at Police Station Qalamabad, and further investigation is currently underway to ascertain whether the accused is part of a larger cattle theft racket operating in the region.
The Handwara Police have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding public property and livestock. Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help maintain peace and order in the area.
Local residents have lauded the swift police action, which has helped prevent a possible livestock theft incident and ensured the safety of property belonging to local farmers.
