Land Passbook as 'valued' as any legal document: Div Com

SRINAGAR, Feb 19: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole described trilingual ‘Land Passbooks’ also known as 'Pattadar' which were issued to the landholders in Srinagar on Saturday as valued as any legal documents like Girdawari and Jamabandi are.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of a Land Passbook launching ceremony here, Div Com said the document is akin to ba and passbook provided to the account holders detailing all their banking transactions.

“Land Passbook is as valued in the light of the aw as any other legal document like Jambandi, Girdawari and Milkiyat are. The document contains details of land ownership. Land passbook is akin to bank passbook which contains all records of transactions related to the deposit and withdrawal of money,” said Pole.

He said any fresh land purchased by the landowner marks its entry into land passbooks so that there is no room left for bungling in records.

The Div Com also said that the process of issuing land passbooks will be completed in all seven Tehsils of Srinagar district till the first week of May.

“If a landowner purchases a land anywhere, it is added to his land passbook. In case of any discrepancy in records by Patwari or any other revenue official, the same could be challenged based on land records in the passbook. The process will be completed in all seven Tehsils of Srinagar till the first week of May,” he added.

“It is a QR Code based document, besides an application will be launched which will help people to keep their land records saved. The government has declared the land passbook as valued as any other legal document is,” said the Div Com.
