Illicit Timber Seized in Joint Operation by Forest Division Langate and Handwara Police

Langate, Aug 28: In a decisive action against the menace of timber smuggling, the Forest Division Langate, with the active support of Handwara Police, seized a Tata Mobile vehicle loaded with illicit timber during night patrolling in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to official reports, the vehicle was found carrying seven timber logs, measuring 77 CFTs, illicitly felled from Compartment No. 43 of Mawar Forest Range. The vehicle was intercepted at Yahama Muqam, Sanzipora, in Langate Range.
The operation was jointly executed by the Beat Officer and his team, Handwara Police, and the Forest Control Room (FCR) Langate, in a well-coordinated effort to tackle the illegal trade.
During the raid, a notorious timber smuggler and history-sheeter, Manzoor Shabangi of Malikpora, was apprehended on the spot. However, the driver of the seized vehicle managed to escape from the scene. The arrested smuggler was handed over to Qalamabad Police Station, while the seized vehicle has been taken into police custody.
Officials commended the swift action and timely support provided by Qalamabad Police, which played a key role in the success of the operation.
Local residents also welcomed the joint action by the Forest Department and Police, praising the authorities for their commitment to protecting forest wealth and curbing illegal logging activities.
Authorities reaffirmed their determination to act sternly against violators, reiterating that preservation of forests remains a top priority to safeguard the environment and natural resources.
