Over 900 Students Participate in Essay Writing Competition at GDC Handwara

Kupwara, Oct 26:In an inspiring initiative to promote creative expression and critical thinking among youth, the Tabinda Memorial Society Handwara, in collaboration with the National Book Trust (NBT), India, Ministry of Education, Government of India, organised a large-scale Essay Writing Competition at Government Degree College (GDC) Handwara on Saturday.
Themed “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body,” the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 900 students representing various educational institutions across the district.
The competition was divided into three categories focusing on diverse and thought-provoking themes.College Students: Transformative Reforms for Viksit Bharat 2047,11th & 12th Class Students: Technological Advancement and 8th, 9th & 10th Class Students: Environmental Sustainability
Participants showcased remarkable writing skills and deep understanding of national development, technological progress, and environmental challenges, reflecting the intellectual potential of the region’s young generation.
To recognize their efforts, the organisers announced cash prizes of ₹30,000, ₹25,000, and ₹20,000 for the first, second, and third positions respectively in each category. The felicitation ceremony for the winners is scheduled to be held at Environment Hall Handwara on November 02, 2025.
The event was sponsored by the National Book Trust, India, and received support from Municipal Council Handwara and Municipal Council Kupwara. Several local and regional media organisations also partnered in promoting this initiative aimed at cultivating reading habits and nurturing intellectual growth among students.
Speaking on the occasion, the organisers expressed gratitude to all institutions, teachers, and participants for their overwhelming response and reaffirmed their commitment to continue such educational and literary activities in the future.
