In a remarkable initiative aimed at honouring stalwarts of Kashmiri language and culture, Lubaab Publications has instituted a prestigious annual honour titled “Khilat-e-Ameer Award”, in memory of the legendary poet and scholar Syed Ameer Shah Kreeri (RA). The award, the first of its kind, celebrates the exemplary contributions of writers, poets, and scholars who have dedicated their lives to the preservation and promotion of Kashmir’s linguistic and literary heritage.

The formal announcement of the award was made during a grand book release ceremony held at the Seminar Hall of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, where literary figures, scholars, and cultural activists gathered to celebrate Kashmiri literature and thought.

The inaugural Khilat-e-Ameer Award was conferred upon Mr. Mohammad Yousuf Taing, the living legend of Kashmiri letters, in recognition of his lifelong and splendid contribution to Kashmiri language, literature, and cultural preservation. Mr. Taing, who has been a towering figure in the intellectual and cultural life of Kashmir for decades, could not attend the public ceremony due to health reasons.

In a special follow-up session, the award was personally handed over to Mr. Mohammad Yousuf Taing at his residence in Rawalpora, Srinagar. The brief but heartfelt presentation was made by Professor Nasir Mirza, noted writer and scholar; Syed Sad-ud-Din Saidi, Noted Administrator and social wirker Syed Ghulam Mohiuddin Andrabi, CEO of Lubaab Publications Syed Jahangir Bukhari and Young Journalist Faizan Qureishi.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Jahangir Bukhari said that “Khilat-e-Ameer is more than just an award—it is a tribute to those who have kept the flame of Kashmiri culture alive through their pen and passion.” He added that Lubaab Publications will continue its mission to serve the cause of literature by supporting writers and poets, particularly those who face financial challenges, through free publication initiatives.

The initiative has been widely appreciated across literary and cultural circles, marking a new milestone in recognising the unsung guardians of Kashmir’s literary tradition.
