Dr. Ab Qayoom
Kupwara, Apr,02:A scientific team from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kupwara, under the supervision of its Head, Prof. G.M. Bhat, conducted an extensive field outreach programme across several villages of the district to promote natural farming practices and establish demonstration models at farmers’ fields.
The team visited villages including Batargam, Dodikote, Kandi and Bramri, where they held interactive sessions with the local farming community. During the visits, on-the-spot advisories were provided, and three progressive farmers with adequate land holdings were selected for the establishment of natural farming demonstration units.
To facilitate the initiative, the KVK distributed essential inputs among the selected farmers, including quality seeds, planting material, mulching material, jaggery, lime, plastic barrels and well-decomposed desi cow dung. The support is aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt sustainable and chemical-free agricultural practices.
During interactions, the scientists assured farmers of timely availability of potato seeds and other inputs in the coming days, subject to their willingness to adopt improved and scientific farming techniques.
The outreach programme was warmly received by the local farming community. Progressive farmers expressed gratitude towards the KVK team for their guidance and technical support. They also appreciated the efforts of Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, and Director Extension, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, for their continued commitment towards the welfare of farmers in Kupwara district.
