Kupwara,Oct,06:The Transport Department on Tuesday sealed three automobile dealerships in Kupwara district for allegedly selling or delivering new vehicles without valid and subsisting Trade Certificates.
The action was taken by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kupwara, during an enforcement inspection conducted across various automobile establishments to ensure compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
According to the ARTO Kupwara, the establishments were found engaged in the sale and delivery of fresh/new motor vehicles without the mandatory Trade Certificate.
The sealed premises include Arise Hyundai at Bumhama, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kupwara, and A.B. Automobiles, Kupwara.
The department said the action was carried out under Section 39 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with Rules 33, 34 and 35 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which prescribe requirements relating to the possession, display, sale, delivery and handling of motor vehicles by dealers and manufacturers.
The ARTO, Kupwara, warned that no automobile dealer or establishment would be allowed to sell, deliver or otherwise deal in new motor vehicles in violation of statutory requirements.
The Transport Department further cautioned automobile dealers across the district to maintain valid Trade Certificates and comply strictly with all applicable legal provisions, warning that stringent action would follow in case of violations.
Officials said inspections of automobile dealerships and other establishments would continue as part of the department's enforcement drive aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance, transparency and adherence to the rules governing motor vehicle dealers in Kupwara district.
