Srinagar, March 10: Former Minister and Legislature from Sangrama constituency in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Syed Basharat Bukhari Thursday said that work on water supply scheme from Shakhwara to Amargarh ridge is on to provide smooth water supply to the people.
Bukhari said that he never publicized the work done by him during his tenure as a minister or legislature nor did he seek any help from the media. He said that a people's elected representative is bound to work for the people who chose them with the hope that their problems are addressed.
The former minister in the PDP-BJP combine led by Former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti said he only discussed the matters about his constituency on the floor of the assembly as the same could not be resolved outside the Assembly.
“When I was MLA I never urged for anything, I did not publicise my work, nor did I seek support from media to highlight my performance as legislature because a people's elected representative is bound to work for people and he has to abide by his commitments,” Bukhari told ‘Headlines Today’.
He said that he never revealed what he did for his constituency, however, if people have any complaints about his work as MLA, they are free to have a debate. He however was quick to add that it’s time to talk and raise issues.
He said that work on the water supply scheme from Shakhwara to Amargarh ridge via Nopora, Muqam, Seer and Panjipora is on so that the drinking water-related problems of people are addressed at the earliest.
“The department had committed a mistake that I came to know about a few months ago. Since there is no elected government in J&K at present, such problems are expected. The upward water flow was affected as the flow was not the same in the downward position following which people faced drinking water problems. Now I assure people that the issue will be resolved at the earliest so that they have a smooth water supply in future,” he added.
