Six Bandipora students invent device to detect quantity of salt in food

Srinagar, March 14: Six students from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have invented a device that detects the amount of salt added to dishes and beverages.

The device, 'smart spoon' is a reliable and affordable device for those suffering from hypertension. It works on the basic principle of conductivity and resistance.

Students, Adnan Farooq, Tabish Mushtaq, Seerat, Tabasum Mansoor, Zainab-un-Nissa and Amaan came up with the innovation.

Zainab-un-Nissa, a student from Bandipora, along with her friends worked on the invention, saying they wanted to invent something which would prove helpful for the people.

"My mother is a hypertensive patient and was not able to taste the salt of different dishes and teas. During Ramadan, it was difficult to taste the salt of dishes and tea. So, we decided to invent a smart spoon," she said.

Another inventor, Ishrat, said they made a ‘smart spoon’ that can prove beneficial to many. She said the spoon has a display that has a green and red light indicating the amount of salt present in a particular dish.
