Police arrest 4 notorious drug peddlers in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 11: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested four notorious drug peddlers and recovered narcotics and proceeds of narcotics worth Rs. 1.25 lacs from their possession.

The Police identified the accused as Sajad Ahmed Beigh son of Abdul Hamid Beigh of Aluchibagh, Aamir Mir son of Mohammad Ashraf Mir of Mujgund Srinagar were arrested near a checking Point at Lal Chowk by a police party of Kothibagh Police station.

During search 21.5gms of brown sugar-like substance was recovered, the police said.

Police said a team of police station Kothibagh, after reception of an intelligence input about the movement of another drug peddler namely Farooq Ahmed Shah son of Gulam Qadir Shah of Rawalpura Shopian was tracked and accordingly apprehended. 25 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from him.

A formal case under FIR nos 19/22 and FIR no 20/22 US 8/21 NDPS Act were lodged at Police station Kothibagh and investigation was set into motion to trace the backward and forward links.

The police said similarly one more drug peddler, Gulam Nabi Bhat son of Abdul Gani Bhat of Bagi Dilawar Khan, Shamsipora Babdem was apprehended at SRTC Bridge by a police party of Police station KaralKhud.

The police said during his search Rescoff. 100 ml = 10 bottles, tablet Escilatopram, 10 tabs), tablet. Eprium, 10 tablets), tablet Quitapine, 10 tabs), Charas like substance, 50 gram, cash one lac twenty thousand and five hundred rupees (Rs.120500/-) were recovered from him.

Police said that a case FIR no.07/2022 U/S 8/20,22,27-A NDPS Act was registered at police station Karalkhud and investigation was set into motion.

Meanwhile a Village Level Officer (VLW) in frontier Kupwara district for possessing Brown Sugar.

Police said that a man was stopped by a naka party in the Riviera area and recovered 21 grams of Brown Sugar from him.

Police identified the accused as Gulzar Ahmad Baba of Kawari Laderwan village who works as works VLW.

The accused was arrested while peddling the narcotics to sell it among the youth of Kupwara, SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas said.

He said Gulzar tried to escape but was caught tactfully and his personal search led to the recovery of 21 grams of Brown Sugar, which was seized and sealed on the spot.

 During preliminary investigations, Gulzar revealed that he was on way to sell the narcotics in small quantities among the youth of Kupwara. Further investigations in the case to unearth this drug syndicate are in progress, he said, adding the accused is a known peddler who in the garb of government employment is stealthily involved in drug dealing in the area. Strong legal action has been initiated against him.
