OPD services resume at Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla

Srinagar, Mar 7: The Out Patient Department (OPD) services were restarted at Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla Srinagar on Monday. The valley’s lone tertiary care hospital providing orthopaedic services to the people suffered massive damage in a devastating fire last week.
OPD services have been started at the hospital and a large number of patients were examined by the doctors, while an emergency theatre would be commissioned in the next 2 to 3 days once the Public Works Department (PWD) gives clearance as the fire and water has partially damaged the support system, said a Spokesperson of the Government Medical College (GMC) here.
Kashmir's only orthopaedic hospital was engulfed in flames, as fire broke out in the hospital on March 4, causing extensive damage and prompting the authorities to evacuate the patients to other hospitals in Srinagar and suspend all medical and para-medical operations.
"The Bone and Joint Hospital, which suffered damage in a fire incident would be made operational within one week or 10 days," Financial Commissioner, Medical and Health Education Vivek Bhardwaj, had told media persons on Saturday at the hospital site at Barzulla in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health Service established a Trauma Unit at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) Hospital Srinagar, which caters to poly-trauma with the posting of orthopaedic surgeons also available there.
They said thirty persons injured in a grenade attack at Amira Kadal on Sunday were treated for poly-trauma at SMHS Hospital.
Moreover presently among the patients who were evacuated from Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla Srinagar and need hospitalization, the thirty-evening of them are being treated by ortorthopaedics apartment at SMHS Hospital while eighteen patients were referred to the Department of Orthopedics, SKIMS Medical College Bemina.
the rest of the patients with minor problems was discharged, they added.
