Langate, March 29: As many as three government buildings on the premises of the Municipal Committee's Langate in Handwara are left unattended from many years that turned into safe heaven for the bad activities while the concerned departments are in deep sleep.
Inhabitants from Langate town told HT-NEWSNETWORK that after the nomination of Langate MC town by ULB, many RDD buildings continued to be used for ill activities by some departments, like ULB, Revenue, Forestry, etc., as the ULB department has failed to provide any watch and ward to the buildings after the nomination of MC town Langate.
"In the rooms of these buildings, one can find empty bottles of codeine (the most abused prescription drug) and empty strips of drugs used by the addicts, who come in the evening hours mostly and are involved in drug abuse in these abandoned buildings," the residents said.
They said, "Among three buildings, one is now in complete shambles with broken windows and doors under a mountain of garbage that apparently looks like a ghost house."
Locals said despite already having three well-constructed buildings in need of little renovation, officials under MC. Langate invested one crore forty-two lakhs on two newly constructed buildings. which is totally understandable, unjustified, and a misusage of government-sponsored public funds that must be investigated by the probe agencies.
A local who requested to be named said that the corners of abandoned buildings become hubs for drug addicts and stray dogs, due to which locals are suffering.
"We have brought this issue to the attention of concerned MC authorities several times, but to no avail," he said.
Locals from both Langate town and the Pharou RDD area requested higher-ups look into the matter at the earliest possible time and that strict action be taken against those officials who are directly responsible for this callous attitude toward public funds used for the new two buildings.
Local demand for LG intervention and urges for high-level investigation under CBI and ACB "We appeal to the government, especially LG JKUT, for investiture." Also urges LG that they should put such corrupt people in jail, get their property checked by the agency, register cases, dismiss these officials from the said posts, and also take strict action against all those who are involved in this scam, where different officials are directly responsible for the misusage of government-sponsored public funds.
Meanwhile, an official from the district administration said that they have already taken up this issue with higher-ups and expect a decision on it soon.
Despite repeated attempts, director ULB Kashmir wasn’t available to comment on the (HT-NEWSNETWORK)
