Bandipora-Gurez road reopen after three months

Srinagar, March 12: The snow clearance operation on Bandipora-Gurez road was completed on Saturday and the road was made traffic worthy after remaining closed for more than three months.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad said the road was thrown open after Border Roads Organization (BRO) completed the snow clearance operation in a record time this year.

He said the first convoy of vehicles was allowed as a trial run towards their destination with proper precautionary measures, including the use of chains.

Dr Owais said traffic will be allowed in a restricted and regulated manner and for restricted hours.

The road remains closed owing to heavy snowfall in Gurez Valley. The road was usually opened in April, but this year, the road was opened early.

The DC lauded the efforts of BRO and MED for working beyond duty hours to ensure opening the road earlier.

Earlier in the morning, the trial run of vehicles was witnessed by Sub Divisional Magistrate Gurez Dr Mudassir and Officer Commanding BRO 56 RCC Lt Col Abhishek at the spot Zadkhusi.
