NEP Age Criteria, Parents Protest

NEP Age Criteria, Parents Protest SRINAGAR: Scores of parents on Wednesday staged a protest against Tyndale Biscoe & Mallinson School for flouting the norms of New Education Policy (NEP) while demanding that students of Lower Primary Division i:e, KG students should be promoted to Class 1st. The parents said that the DSEK in a letter dated March 11, 2023 directed the management of Tyndale Biscoe and Mallison Higher secondary school Srinagar to promote kids to next classes prospectively rather than retrospectively. However, a day after the letter was issued, the school came up with fresh notification on preschool age criteria by giving retrospective effect to the NEP-2020 killing the spirit of this new education policy and not following the orders from Directorate of School Education. “Tyndale Biscoe & Mallinson School is not complying with any of the directions from DSEK. Age-appropriated promotion of previous (non-NEP) batches led to their retention in the same class for another year (after re-captioning this class as UKG) which means students have to be in the same class for over 2 years implying that they are badly affecting previous batches, unlike any other school in Jammu and Kashmir. This is sheer arrogance and violation of the New Education Policy," the protesting parents said. "It is shocking why our own school plans to retain KG students in the same class and make them lose one complete year when compared to the fellow batch mates in any other schools of the J&K UT. Besides, it would be a huge financial burden on parents." The protesting parents requested the Divisional Commissioner and Director Education to take note of this grave issue (CNS)
