SRINAGAR: Announcing the fallibility of the 'witness' about sighting of crescent from Poonch, Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam on Wednesday evening said the Ramadan 1444 A.H will begin from Friday this week. Islam said that the office had entrusted its men across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir to see if the crescent is observable at any place. “We had earlier received a ‘witness’ from Poonch, which after being put to scrutiny turned too feeble to enable us reach the decision about the start of Ramadan from tomorrow (Thursday)”, Islam said adding “Apart from that witness there was nothing significant seen anywhere.” “As such the holy month of Ramadan in Jammu and Kashmir will begin on coming Friday.” “I in advance extend my wishes to the whole Ummah especially to people of Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of the start of auspicious month”, he said further urging the people to make lots of prayers in favour of everyone and nevertheless also help the downtrodden sections of society. Notably, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind earlier in the evening announced that crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in Delhi or in any other part of the country and as such month of Ramzan will begin from March 24.
