SRINAGAR: Central University of Kashmir on Wednesday announced postponement of exams scheduled for tomorrow – March 7, 2024.

“It is notified for the information of all concerned that the examinations scheduled for 7 March, 2024 (Thursday) are hereby postponed,” reads a notification issued by the controller of examinations.

It said that the date for the said examinations shall be notified separately.

SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir has postponed all the examinations scheduled for (Monday) 19th and (Tuesday) 20th of Feb. 2024 in view of inclement weather conditions. Fresh dates for the conduct of postponed papers shall be communicated separately.

SRINAGAR: The Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora on Wednesday announced the observance of winter vacations from January 1, 2024, upto February 11, 2024. 

The exams and other academic/administrative activities, as per a varsity notification according to GNS, will continue as planned during this period. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: University of Kashmir (KU) Tuesday announced winter vacations for main and satellite campuses from January-01 to February-25-2023.

Besides, the University announced winter break for the private colleges affiliated with it from December-27 to February-14 respectively.  

According to the news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Assistant Registar of KU said that the teaching departments of the university and its satellite campuses shall observe winter vacations from January-01-2024 to February-25-2024.

“However the departmental offices shall function normally and the heads and directors of the departments and campuses shall ensure that the examinations (If any) and other activities are conducted as per schedule,” it reads.

It also said that the remedial classes, offline or online mode shall be conducted by the departments to complete the remaining syllabus (if any) during the period of winter break.

It also said that the Head of the Department's, Directors of the campus should ensure resumption of class work and other academic activities immediately after the vacations.  

Meanwhile, Dean, College Development Council in a communique said, “All the private colleges affiliated with the University of Kashmir shall observe winter vacation from December-27-2023 to February-14-2024.

“However, all teaching and non-teaching staff shall remain available in the college as and when required,” it reads.

The officer further said that the library should remain open for students during vacations. (KNO)

The authorities at the University of Kashmir have acted against the ‘unruly’ Director of Institute of Kashmir Studies (IKS) for his ‘rowdy’ behavior.

“Rather beat-up his subordinate who approached the Vice Chancellors office who after passionate hearing ordered the ‘immediate removal’ of Director IKS” sources said.

Tareek Rather Director IKS after the incident has submitted his resignation after he allegedly assaulted his subordinate in the institute on Tuesday. Rather who is also allegedly accused of ‘sexual harassment’ took over as the director IKS last year in violation of ICC norms.

The complaints of assault and harassment against Rather were also received earlier when he was director of CCAS.

Earlier, a PhD Scholar who was working under his (Tareek Rather) supervision besides complaining of harassment accused Rather of uncouth and unruly behavior but the complaints were ignored by university administration then.

Following the Sexual Harassment case Internal Complaints Committee directed Tareek Rather to strictly adhere to the gender sensitive behavior while dealing with female scholars instead of directly recommending punishment as per ICC norms.

Sources said that “It is being said that Rather was also involved in an infamous assault of former Dean Social Sciences M Yousuf Ganie who was assaulted by former HoD political sciences and his nephew.”

After the current incident of unruly behavior on part of a ‘Professor’ questions are being raised over the academic system inside the university which according to insiders demands immediate attention.

Insiders told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that a group of ‘politically linked’ university teachers are trying to disrupt the academic environment inside the university by harassing and creating disturbances in different departments.

“This incident is a tip of an iceberg, there are many so called professors who are creating fuss inside departments for their ulterior motives, junior and talented professors are being harassed in many ways, academic excellence has been choked and university has gone to dogs"

 “LG administration should verify the antecedents of all such university teachers who are still stick to rowdy behavior in view of their previous political linkages” University teachers wishing anonymity said, adding “The only way to clean university of muck is to crush the lobbyism and remove dead wood from university.”

Registrar KU, Dr Nissar confirmed to KDC that Tareek Rather, Director IKS has submitted his resignation on Monday. However, Nissar said “I don’t know anything about the incident that had happened at the university. If there is any allegation against the director, the same will be probed, he added.

Insiders said that Tareek Rather was 'forcibly' removed from the post citing his ‘rowdy’ behaviour. (KDC)
