SRINAGAR: Flashfloods, triggered by torrential rains, have caused widespread damage to standing crops and orchards in various villages of Lolab belt.

Reports reaching GNS said that villages including Gundmachar, Khurhama and Shalagund witnessed damage to agricultural crops and orchards due to flashfloods. Several roads have also suffered damage. 

The inhabitants have appealed the authorities to assess the loss caused and accordingly compensate the victims. 

When contacted, Inam-ul-Maqbool Sogam Tehsildar, also holding the charge for Lalpora, told GNS that his office has deputed the teams to assess the ground situation in the wake of the flashfloods. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A labourer injured in an electrocution incident last week at Dilbagh area in Lolab of north Kashmir’s Kupwara, has succumbed at a hospital here on Tuesday morning.

An official told GNS that Aijaz Ahmad Mir of Thundoosa Lolab, was among two labourers who were hospitalized with injuries after receiving an electric shock at Dilbagh area in Lolab on Friday last when an iron pole they were erecting, touched a high-tension electric wire overhead.

The duo was evacuated from the site to SDH Sogam, from where both of them were referred to District Hospital Handwara for preferential treatment.

“Among the injured, Aijaz Ahmad Mir of Chrali Gund Lolab was further referred to SKIMS Soura, where he succumbed this morning”, the official said.

When contacted, a police official told GNS that they have already registered a case in this regard with investigations going on. (GNS)

Reports reaching GNS that two labourers were electrocuted at Dilbagh area in Divar Lolab when an iron pole they were erecting, touched a high-tension electric wire overhead. The duo was evacuated from the site to SDH Sogam, from where both of them were referred to District Hospital Handwara for preferential treatment. 

The duo has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Mir of Chrali Gund Lolab and Aadil Ahmad Mir of Thundoosa Lolab.  It has been in the meantime learnt that one among the injured namely Aijaz Ahmad Mir has received critical injuries in the incident. 

Despite repeated attempts, the AEE concerned could not be reached for comments. (GNS)
