7th Grade Student Allegedly Harassed By Teacher In Kashmir

SRINAGAR: A girl student of class 7th has alleged that she was harassed by her teacher in central Kashmir’s Budgam district even as the teacher has been arrested by police.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) father of the girl student said that when she came back home from school she fell unconscious and was hospitalised.

He said that the doctor told them to see if everything is fine with their daughter. “When we enquired from her she disclosed that she was harassed by a teacher at school and started crying,” he said.

Meanwhile, the family members demanded strict action against the accused teacher.

A police official told KNO that the teacher has been arrested and a case FIR no. 75/2023 under section 354 has been registered and further investigation has been started.

Meanwhile, chief education officer Budgam has also ordered suspension of the teacher till the outcome of the enquiry.

‘’Pending enquiry into his conduct and in the backdrop of serious allegations, Abdul Rasheed Mir, RReT High School Rawalpora Zone Hardpanzoo is placed under suspension with immediate effect and is attached to this office till further orders.‘’ reads the order—(KNO)

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday arrested a 48 year-old man for allegedly sexually harassing 13 year old female relative in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

In a tweet, Srinagar police wrote, "One Mushtaq Ahmad Khan(48 Yrs) S/o Gh Ahmad Khan R/o Housing Colony Chanapora arrested for sexually harassing his 13 year old female relative. FIR 40/ 2023 in POCSO act registered at Chanpura PS. Srinagar Police salutes the courage of this brave child in reporting this crime. (GNS)

This is a cause of serious concern and requires immediate attention and action. Sexual assault is a heinous crime and a violation of human rights. It is a threat to the safety and well-being of society and the perpetrators must be brought to justice. In the case of minors, the effects of sexual assault can be more severe, as they are vulnerable and unable to defend themselves against such crimes. There are many reasons for the increase in sexual assault cases against minors in Kashmir. One of the reasons is the lack of awareness about sexual assault and its consequences. Many people in the region are not aware of the laws related to sexual assault, and this lack of knowledge makes it easier for perpetrators to do such crimes. A teacher sexually harassed a nine-year-old girl in Srinagar followed by his arrest by the police after he confessed to the crime. The arrested teacher was identified as Abdul Wahid Bhat son of Abdul Rehman Bhat from Khan colony Chanapora. The accused confessed to his crime and police have registered the case under FIR No 14 of 2023 u/s 354 IPC & 12 POCSO act in Chanpura Police Station.
