<p>Kupwara town recorded a low of 8.1°C against 5.6°C on the previous night and it was 4.9°C above normal there, the official said.</p>
<p>Gulmarg recorded a low of 1.4°C against minus 2.5°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 3.0°C for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.</p>
<p>Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 17.2°C and it was above normal by 1.7°C for the winter capital of J&amp;K.</p>
<p>Banihal recorded a low of 9.0°C, Batote 10.0°C and Bhaderwah 9.0°C, he said.</p>
<p>With regard to the forecast for next 24 hours, he said, mainly dry weather is expected with possibility of very light rain/TS at one or two places over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.</p>
<p>“Overall, no significant weather activity is expected till March 27 evening,” he said, adding, “From March 27 evening to March 28, generally cloudy weather with light rain/snow is expected (higher reaches) at many places.”</p>
<p>From March 29, he said, partly cloudy weather with light rain/snow is expected at isolated places.</p>

<p>Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 5.7°C and it was below normal by 0.6°C for the winter capital of J&amp;K.</p>
<p>Banihal recorded a low of minus 0.8°C, Batote 0.3°C and Bhaderwah minus 0.5°C, he said.</p>
<p>Regarding forecast, the MeT official here said that from February 3-4, generally cloudy weather is expected towards afternoon with possibility of light to moderate snow/rain at many places towards evening till Sunday evening with chances of heavy snowfall over isolated higher reaches.</p>
<p>“Middle and higher reaches of North, Nwestern and South Kashmir may receive 8-12 inches of Snow, lower reaches &amp; plains may receive 3-6 inches, while plains of Central Kashmir may receive rain with 1-2 inches of Snow.”</p>
<p>Jammu Division may receive light to moderate rain with thunder/lightning with light to moderate snow over higher reaches of Pirpanjal Range and Chenab Valley during the period, he said.</p>
<p>On February 5, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather with possibility of light snow over isolated higher reaches is expected.</p>

<p>Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.0°C against minus 1.4°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 1.9°C for the place, the official said.</p>
<p>Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.7°C against minus 5.0°C on the previous night and it was 1.6°C below normal there, the official said.</p>
<p>Gulmarg, the official said, recorded a low of minus 4.6°C against minus 3.6°C on the previous night and the temperature was 3.1°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.</p>
<p>Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 5.9°C against 5.0°C on the previous night, and it was below normal by 1.2°C for the winter capital of J&amp;K.</p>
<p>Banihal recorded a low of minus 1.4°C, Batote 1.9°C and Bhaderwah minus 0.4°C, he said.</p>
<p>The MeT has forecast for light snow at isolated higher reaches on January 25 and light rain and snow over scattered places for subsequent two days in Jammu and Kashmir.</p>
<p> “Dry weather is likely to continue till January 24 with generally cloudy on 20th evening,” the official said.</p>
<p>On January 25, he said, light snow at isolated higher reaches was expected while from January 26-28, light rain and snow was expected over scattered places.</p>
<p> “As per indications of different models, there is possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at many places very likely from January 29-31,(Detailed information will be shared in coming days),” he said </p>
<p>The MeT department also forecast redevelopment of moderate to dense fog and fall in day temperature over Jammu Division during next three days.</p>
<p>Kashmir valley is under ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harsh period of winter, which will end on January 29. However it does not mean an end to the winter. It is followed by a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ that occurs between January 30 and February 19 and a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which is from February 20 to March 1. The tourist resort of Sonamarg received 4–5 inches of snow.<br /><br />While the upper reaches received snow, widespread rains lashed the plains.<br /><br />Srinagar city recorded 20.9 mm of rain in the last 24 hours until Tuesday morning, the Meteorological Department said.<br /><br />Qazigund in south Kashmir received 47.4 mm of rainfall, while north Kashmir’s Kupwara town received 12.3 mm of rainfall.<br /><br />The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded 18.6 mm rain.<br /><br />South Kashmir’s Pahalgam resort reported 27.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.<br /><br />The snowfall and rain have brought down day as well as night temperatures across Kashmir.
