SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said it attached 14 marla residential land belonging to a terror associate's family in north Kashmir's Bandipora district 

"Bandipora Police has attached 14 Marla of residential land at Ashtengoo Bandipora in case FIR No.43/2022", said a police spokesperson. 

"The land had been identified as proceeds of terrorism and was attached under the UAPA."

"The land belongs to the family of a terror associate of LeT , Irfan Ahmad Bhat. His brother had also exfiltrated to Pakistan in 2000", the spokesperson said further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday busted an inter-state narcotics peddling racket by arresting two Punjab based peddlers and recovered around twenty two kilograms of heroin-like substance having high monetary value in the market.

“The arrests were made in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri district and investigation into forward and backward linkages of the case have been set into motion,” police said in a statement to GNS.

Quoting Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Amritpal Singh (IPS), the statement said a specific intelligence input was received by police that two suspects are in transit from Rajouri towards Jammu in a vehicle in late evening hours on Wednesday and acting swiftly over it, police teams were put on alert across the district. The police said existing nakas were strengthened to intercept them while some mobile MCVPs were also established.

“At around 09:30 PM, a vehicle bearing registration number  JK01AB 5470 was intercepted at Jammu Rajouri Poonch highway at police naka near ITI Sunderbani,” the police said.

Two Punjab based persons were travelling in the vehicle which was put to frisking during which a large quantity of heroin-like substance was recovered which is approximately 22 Kilograms.

“This huge consignment has been recovered from possession of these two person who have been identified as Onkar Singh son of Karam Singh resident of village Talmandi Barth, District Gurdaspur Punjab and Shamsher Singh son of Nirmal Singh resident of Village Barthmal Tehsil Gurdaspur Punjab.”

While the duo was arrested, police said a case (FIR 42/2023) under section 8/21/22/25/27A/29/60 NDPS Act has been registered at Police station Sunderbani.

“Further investigation into the matter is going on and all the forward and backward linkages are being traced with more arrests in the case are expected during the course of investigation."

The SSP Rajouri termed this as a major success for police on the anti-narcotics front, asserting that the narco militancy aspect of this recovery is also being probed. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) demanded to restore the full quota of food grains to the consumers in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that people have been facing severe hardship for the past several months.

KEA Co-Chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar in a statement issued to CNS said that as a result of the reduction in rice and flour quota, the consumers have become victims of mental confusion. Dar said that Jammu and Kashmir had its own quota of rice for a long time and it was desired that this quota would have been increased keeping in view the increase in the population rate, but the unfortunate point is that this quota has decreased. Dar said that the current quota of 4 kg of rice per person per month is a joke with the people. He said that the authorities are aware that the people of Jammu and Kashmir consume more rice, but 4 kg of rice is 125 grams rice at the daily rate, even one bird cannot fill its stomach.

Farooq Dar said that already after the floods, the economy of Jammu and Kashmir has reached the brink of collapse, and the purchasing power of the people has vanished and it is not wise to reduce the ration quota. He demanded the authorities to immediately reconsider their policy and increase the ration quota in Jammu and Kashmir so that people are entitled to at least meals a day. (CNS)

SRINAGAR: A group of students from Kashmir studying at Government Medical College hostel were on Monday allegedly intimated by some 'outsiders' in the hostel premises, officials said. 

As per sources, several outsiders entered the hostel premises, engaging themselves and intimidating a group of students from Kashmir putting up at the GMC Jammu hostel. 

Confirming the incident, a senior police officer told GNS that they have taken cognisance into the matter where it has been reported that Kashmiri students were intimidated. "An FIR has been registered into this incident and matter is under investigation, " the officer. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A student was injured in a scuffle that broke out between students of government medical college, Jammu and outsiders in the institution's hostel. A top police officer said that a student was attacked with an iron rod & sustained head injuries with 12 stitches. SSP Jammu,Chandan Kohli told the Kashmir Scroll said that there has been an incident of scuffle between some students and outsiders in GMC Hostel, Jammu. "The police have taken cognizance of the matter and investigation is going on, " The officer added. (KS)
