SRINAGAR: A cyclist was killed in a road mishap in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.

Official sources said that a school matador hit a cyclist leaving him injured. The middle-aged victim, identified as Bashir Ahmed Dar was rushed to Government Medical College Anantnag for treatment, however, he succumbed in the hospital.

The accident occurred at Harnag village of Anantnag and the victim was also a resident of the same district from Muniward village.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law. [KNT]

SRINAGAR: A yatri lost his life after falling off track in Baltal Ganderbal district on Friday.

An official told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that one Yatri namely Sh. Vijay Kumar Shah R/o village Tumba, District Rohtas Bihar, age 50 years who has been accompanied by one namely as Mamta Kumari while coming back from Holy Cave has fell down from the track near Kali Mata Track died on spot.

The dead body has been recovered and is being transported further towards Baltal Base camp Hospital. Further proceedings have been taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR:  A man died in a self immolation in Aragam Area of North Kashmir Bandipora district on late night. Reports reaching news agency Kashmir scroll that during night hours from ward no 4 aged about 29 years put kerosene oil into his body and burnt himself.

His family members extinguished the fire and rushed to district hospital Bandipora in critical condition, they said. From Bandipora he was referred to SMHS srinagar, however, he died on way, they said.

After completion of medical legal formalities dead body handed over to legal heirs. Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident. (KS)

SRINAGAR: Driver of a dumper vehicle died after the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into gorge in Mendhar Poonch, officials said on Saturday.

They said that the dumper vehicle (JK12B-7126) met with the accident at Naka Village area of Mendhar. Soon a rescue operation was launched by local volunteers and police. However, the driver Yaqoob Azam (52) son of Mohammad Hussain of Bhata Dhrian died on spot.

A police official confirmed the death of the driver to GNS and said that a case has been registered and further investigations taken up. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A Haji pilgrim from Sopore who returned from Hajj on Tuesday has passed away after battling a massive heart stroke. Sources told Kashmir Scroll that one Haji of the first batch returned from Hajj, namely Ghulam Mohammad Gojri, son of Mohammad Ramzan Gojri of Hygam Sopore, aged around 70 years old, suffered Brian haemorrhage at home. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors referred him to JVC Srinagar.

Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the pilgrim’s condition deteriorated rapidly; sadly, he succumbed to the illness today morning, thus leaving behind a shocked and grieving community, they said Meanwhile, a family member of the deceased Haji also confirmed this sad news to Kashmir Scroll, saying he lost his breath today morning at SKIMS medical institute Srinagar.(KS)

SRINAGAR: An employee of NKC from Uttar Pradesh died in Central Kashmir's Budgam district on Thursday.

An official told news agency, Kashmir Scroll that Rajesh son of Feku resident of Makhamelpur Bibipur, Mau UP, employee of NKC at Gudsathu fell unconscious and was rushed to Budgam hospital for treatment.

The attending doctors declared the employee as brought dead while proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have been initiated, and medico-legal formalities are underway, he said. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A tourist died after slipping into a river at Butapathri in famous ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, officials said.

They told GNS that one Shalo Anand (46) wife of Sandeep Anand was with her family when she slipped into the river. 

The female was immediately rescued and taken to a nearby health facility, where she was however declared as brought dead on arrival, they said.

Confirming it, a police official told GNS that the tourist had head injuries which she suffered on slipping into the river. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Joint Director Elementary Education at DSEK Shams-U-Din Tuesday died of heart attack.

Officials at DSEK informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the Joint Director was on duty when he felt unconscious in the lawns of Directorate.

“He was immediately rushed to hospital, but hè collapsed on the way,” the official said. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: Renowned Islamic scholar Baji Muzzaffar Hussain, known in social circles as Baji Sahab, of Kalakote Rajouri, passed away of protracted illness on Sunday evening. He was 60.

A close relative of Baji Muzzaffar Hussain said that 'Baji Sahab' died of prolonged illness at his home in Kalakote Rajouri. “He was not keeping well for over a considerable period of time now and eventually left for heavenly abode this (Sunday) evening”, the relative told GNS.

The funeral prayer to the departed soul is scheduled to be held at his ancestral village in Kalakote Rajouri after noon (Zuhr) prayers on Monday.

Baji Hussain known for his religious acumen and oratory skills had also affiliation with politics for quite a while and was seen with Peoples Democratic Party Founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and incumbent PDP Chairperson Mehbooba Mufti on several occasions.

Several political leaders including Peoples Democratic Party Chairperson Mehooba Mufti, Apni Party Patron Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari were among others expressing their grief and sorrow over the demise of Baji Hussain and extended their commiserations with the bereaved family.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, PDP Chairperson Mehooba Mufti wrote; “Deeply saddened to hear about the sad & sudden demise of Baji Sayed Muzaffar Shah Sahab of kalakote. He was a great spiritual leader and I feel fortunate to have known him. Condolences to his family & his well wishers. May God give him the highest place in jannat (sic.).”

In his message, Apni Party Patron Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari wrote on Twitter; Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Baji Muzaffer Hussain of Broi – Kalakote. I extend my heartfelt commiserations to the bereaved family and to his loved ones especially to his close relative and our JKAP's District President Rajouri Syed Manzoor Bukhari sahab and to his nephew and our district president bandipora Syed Shafat Qazmi sahab ,during these tough times. Legacy of Shah Sahab will forever be remembered and cherished. May his soul find eternal peace and may the bereaved family find strength in this hour of grief (sic.).”  

Many others people have also expressed their grief over the demise of Baji Hussain and unequivocally termed it a great loss to J&K and especially to Rajouri district. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A Border Security Forces' Constable died of a suspected cardiac arrest here on Friday afternoon, officials said. 

They told GNS that one Constable identified as Patil of 91 Batallion stationed at Naugam was found dead, leading to speculation that he has died due to cardiac arrest. 

"To allay any doubts, the body has been sent for post-mortem for factual details about his death", they said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: 5 Year-old girl died after 'falling off a moving truck' in Zangli in north Kashmir’s Kupwara.

Reports reaching GNS that one Deeba Jan, daughter of Ghulam Nabi Khan, resident of Zangli Kupwara 'fell off the truck', resulting in grievous injuries to her. The girl was evacuated from the site and taken to SDH Kupwara, where the doctors declared her as brought dead on arrival.

Despite attempts, no official could be immediately made available to confirm the particular incident. (GNS)
