SRINAGAR: A joint team of security forces on Friday recovered a large quantity of war-like stores in Lolab area in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.  

As learnt by GNS, security forces including Army, Police and BSF on receipt of specific information launched a search operation in Gangbugh Sogam, during which a cache of war-like stores were recovered. 

The officers part of the operation said that the Pakistan based handlers were planning to use the now recovered (war-like) stores to carry out adverse activities in the region. 

The successful conduct of the operation, the officers said, has dealt a major blow to the nefarious designs of Pakistan based militant groups. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: The body of a man who had jumped into the Jhelum River last month was retrieved on Saturday, officials said.

They said that the body of the deceased, identified as Nazir Ahmed Matoo, son of Ali Mohd Matoo, a resident of Tenbagh Eidgah, Srinagar, was recovered from the Jhelum River at Shalteng bridge by the Police.

The man had reportedly jumped from Safakadal bridge on February 29 this year.

The body has been shifted to a hospital and will be handed over to family after medico-legal formalities. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: A rusted mortar shell was found during construction in the Surankote area of Poonch district, officials said.

They said that the shell was found near Gurudwara Surankote  and subsequently army  and Police Surankote rushed to the spot.

The shell was later taken away from residential areas by Army’s BDS and destroyed near Suran river, they added.
A police officer confirmed it to GNS and said that a case has been registered in this regard. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara apprehended a militant associate with arms and ammunition on Friday. 

"Today on 16/02/2024 police Kupwara apprehended one person whose identity was ascertained as Asif Mushtaq Wani son of Mushtaq Ahmed Wani resident of Galizoo Kupwara at a surprise Naka checking jointly established by Police Kupwara, PC Kupwara, 47RR and 162 CRPF near BEd college Dragmullah", reads a statement issued to GNS. 

"The person tried to escape on seeking the alert joint security forces party , however he was apprehended after putting hectic efforts. On the search of the said person one Pistol Chinese Make, one pistol magazine and 6 pistol rounds were recovered from his possession", reads the statement. 

"In this regard case FIR No 37/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Kupwara and investigation has been taken up", reads the statement further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday recovered arms and ammunition during a joint search operation in Magam area of Kupwara.
 
“In a joint search operation today (Wednesday) at Cheramunji near Magam, Kupwara, Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police have achieved a major breakthrough against the militant activities, resulting in a significant recovery of ammunition and Warlike stores”, reads a statement issued to GNS. 

The operation, the statement reads, was a result of Human intelligence received from a reliable source. 

“A meticulous operation of search and destroy was launch based on the input which resulted in the recovery of 9x UBGL shells, 4x IED receivers, 30 x Commercial grade detonators housed in their original factory packaging, 138 rounds of AK47, a loaded magazine of sniper rifle, blank rounds of AK 47 and 4x magazines of 9mm pistol”, reads the statement. SRINAGAR: Police and army Monday recovered unassembled IED weighing around 10 kilograms in Kishtwar district, officials said.

They said that on the basis of specific input from regarding presence of IED at Hasti Village, Shalimar Kishtwar, army and police launched an operation and recovered the explosives kept under a culvert. 

SHO Kishtwar Parvaiz Khanday confirmed to GNS the recovery of the explosives and said that a major tragedy was averted due to timely detection of the explosives. “It was an unassembled IED. we have registered a case and started further investigations.” (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Tuesday recovered rusted ammunition from along the National Highway in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police sources said that four magazines and rusted rounds were recovered near highway in Jakh area of Samba district.

SRINAGAR:  Security forces on Friday recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including five AK rifles close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, Srinagar based defence spokesman said on Friday.

The recoveries were made by a joint team of Army, Border Security Force and Police during a search operation that is still underway in Machil sector of the frontier district.

Defence spokesman Lt Col M K Sahu said that based on concrete intelligence inputs by agencies on attempts by terrorists to induct war like stores into Kashmir Valley from across the LoC, a joint operation was launched from August 15 to 18 in Machil.

“During the search operations, huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered at around 1100 hours today which include five AK Series Rifles, eight AK Magazines, seven 9mm Pistols, fifteen 9mm Pistol Magazines, four Hand Grenades, 7.62 mm AK Rounds, 7.62 mm AP Rounds and 9 mm Rounds and other incriminating material,” the spokesman said.

Lt Col M K Sahu said extensive search of the area is being carried out.

The spokesman said the recovery of such a large cache of arms and ammunition is a huge setback to the nefarious designs of terrorist organisations to disrupt peace and tranquility in Kashmir Valley.

“Security Forces in complete synergy are always combat ready and are committed to keep the Valley safe and secure,” he added.

Meanwhile, a BSF spokesman said the input about cache of arms and ammunition was generated by the Force following which a joint operation was launched in Machil.

Following the recovery of arms and ammunition, Inspector General BSF, Kashmir, Ashok Yadav said that the successful operation is the result of strong operational synergy between forces on the LoC.

“The successful operation has once again thwarted attempts by various terrorist organizations to disrupt peace and tranquility in the Kashmir valley,” he said.

SRINAGAR: A body of an unknown lady was recovered from Nallah Sindh in Ganderbal district on Wednesday officials said.

They told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that body of unknown lady was recovered from nallah Sindh village in Pathribal near Rayill Gund Ganderbal.

They said that police had taken cognizance and started investigation.(KS)

SRINAGAR: A major infiltration bid was foiled along Line of Control in Poonch, army said on Thursday.

A defence spokesperson said that the army's Sarla Battalion averted a major infiltration attempt from across LoC in Poonch on intervening Wednesday and Thursday night. “Some two to three militants laced with heavy weaponry tried to sneak into this side, however upon receiving a strong response all of them were forced to retract”, the spokesperson said.

“The fleeing intruders left a huge cache of arms and ammunition besides eatables, clothes and medicine which was recovered from the site by the army”, the spokesperson further said. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: There wasn't any improvised explosive device (IED) but an old mortor shell which was recovered by BSF in Handwara, police said. 

"An information was generated wherein a Road Opening Party of BSF said it recovered an 'IED' in general area of Bhatpura village near a culvert", a police official told GNS, adding "However on a close assessment, the recovered ammunition turned out to be an old mortor shell."

"The recovered shell may have been lying at the site for a quite a time", the official further said. (GNS)
