SRINAGAR: A destructive hailstorm swept through Ajas tehsil and its adjoining areas in Bandipora district this evening, leaving a trail of devastation by damaging orchards and standing crops – the primary sources of livelihood for a major chunk of the local population. 

Reports reaching GNS said that among the most affected locations included Ajas, Chinpazpora, SK Payeen and other villages.

The storm unleashed a barrage of hailstones, ranging in size from small pellets to large, causing significant harm to the agricultural crops including wheat, rice, and vegetables.

Preliminary reports suggest that fruit-laden trees including apple, cherry, and pear orchards have suffered extensive damage, endangering the livelihoods of countless farmers and workers who rely on this sector.

Many vehicles also reportedly suffered damage in the weather fury.

The local population have appealed to the authorities to assess the situation arising out of the situation and to compensate them to overcome the loss caused. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Barely minutes after locals from Charawan area of Ajas Bandipora claimed that no one from the F&ES Department turned out for the help to put out a blaze gutting a house and a cowshed, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora said ‘two vehicles of F&ES department from two different locations were deputed to the fire incident spot on time.’

Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Owais Ahmad told GNS that two two vehicles of F&ES department from two different locations were deputed to the fire incident spot on time. “The Control Room of District Administration Bandipora is actively following the incident”, he said adding the necessary help will be provided to the victims.” 

Earlier the locals expressing their anguish told GNS that despite timely intimation to F&ES Department, no one from the department turned out for help. The locals nonetheless hailed Army’s 13 RR and expressed their gratitude towards them for their timely help which, according to them, prevented the fire from spreading to other houses in the vicinity. SRINAGAR: A residential house and a cowshed were completely gutted in a massive fire incident in Charwan area of Ajas in North Kashmir's Bandipora district this evening.

Reports reaching GNS said that a residential house and a cowshed belonging to one Mubeen Ahmad Gojar Matravi, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Gojar Matravi, got completely damaged in a massive fire incident.

Expressing their anguish against F&ES Department for ‘failing to reach the site’, a group of locals told GNS that despite timely intimation no one from the department turned out for help.

The locals in the meantime hailed Army’s 13 RR and expressed their gratitude towards them for their timely help which, according to them, prevented the fire from spreading to other houses in the vicinity. (GNS)
