SRINAGAR: In a latest development vis-à-vis the extension of approximately 33.7 kilometre long railway line from Sopore to Kupwara under the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, the Kupwara administration has sought latest requisite data from various offices in the district for the purpose of ‘Final Location Survey’ (FLS) by the Railway authorities.

“Dy. Chief Engineer/C-II, Northern Railway, USBRL Project, Banihal vide communication under reference has conveyed that Northern Railway is conducting the Final Location Survey (FLS) for extending the Railway Line from Sopore to Kupwara. An assessment of the anticipated traffic on this proposed new line has to be made as a part of the project report which will help in deciding the requisite infrastructure at various stations,” reads a communiqué by ADC Kupwara to General Manager DIC, Chief Agricultural Officer, ARTO, Assistant Director FCS&CA, Area Marketing Officer, Deputy Registrar Cooperatives Society Kupwara and Executive Officer MC Kupwara/Handwara/Langate.

“Now therefore, you are requested to provide latest data pertaining to your respective departments with regard to the population of the towns in the Project area and the transportation requirement for various commodities i.e Food Grains, Fertilizer, Cement, Diesel, Petrol, Steel Etc for the Project Area,” reads the communiqué, a copy of which lies with GNS.

“This requires your personal attention and needs to be submitted to this Office (ADC Office) within 03 days positively,” reads the communiqué further. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A female body was retrieved from river Jhelum in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on friday evening.

Official sources told the news agency, Kashmir Scroll that the body later was found by some passersby near Dukalbal Sopore, adding that a police team arrived at the scene and retrieved the body from the river.

Meanwhile, a police official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that investigations into the matter are being taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A 10 year old boy died in a road accident in Tarzoo Sopore area of North Kashmir Baramulla district on Wednesday. An official told the Kashmir Scroll that an accident took place at Tarzoo when a vehicle hits a bike in which minor received critical injuries. He said that minor identified as Adnan Azad Malla (10) son of Wali Mohmmad Malls resident of Tarzoo Sopore was shifted to nearby hospital from where he was referred to SKIMS Srinagar where he succumbed.

Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance and started investigation.(KS)

SRINAGAR: The authorities on Monday sealed Tehsil Social Welfare office in Dangiwachi area of Sopore after its employees were found absent, while explanation has also been sought from the absent employees. 

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that ADC Sopore SA Raina today conducted a surprise visit of the office, during which employees were found absent. 

He said that explanation has been sought from the absent employees and they have also been attached to the office of Tehsildar Dangiwacha. 

"Tehsildar Dangiwachi has appointed as enquiry officer to investigate the matter and submit his report within two days," he said. (KNO)

SRINAGAR: After Handwara now a man from north Kashmir's Sopore on Monday was injured after a wild bear attacked him.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that today morning a 38-year-old man was injured after a wild bear attacked him in Muqam Shaheed Mir area of Botengoo Sopore. The injured was immediately taken to nearby hospital where from he was referred to Sub District Hospital Sopore for advanced treatment.

The injured man was identified as Manzoor Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganai resident of Muqam Shaheed Mir Sopore.(KS)

SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir's Sopore on Saturday claimed to have arrested a man on charge of provoking his wife to take an extreme step.

A senior police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll that recently a suicide case of a lady was reported in the model town of Sopore, for which a case was registered, and accordingly, an investigation was set into motion.

The officer said that during the course of the investigation, it was learnt that the husband of the deceased lady had provoked her to commit suicide. The officer further added that the husband of the deceased lady has been arrested under section 306 IPC and is currently behind the bars. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A minor girl drowned in the nallah on Friday evening in the Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a 5-year-old girl (name withheld) drowned to death while slipping into Nallah Kurd at Heb Dangerpora.

The officer, however, said that the body of the girl was fished out of the nallah by the locals and police.

Meanwhile, local reports reaching Kashmir Scroll said that emotional scenes were seen in the whole village soon after this shocking news was spread.

A police officer told Kashmir Scroll that a case in this regard has been registered. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A madrassa teacher was apprehended on Thursday for allegedly sodomizing a minor boy in Sopore town of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. A police official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that the arrest came following a complaint lodged by a 12-year-old boy (identity withheld), who accused his madrasa teacher (identity withheld) of committing the heinous act.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police promptly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused madrasa teacher on charges of sodomy. 

Asenior police officer, while confirming the incident, told Kashmir Scroll, that a case under Section 377 of the law has been registered in connection with the alleged sodomy, and the investigation is underway.

SRINAGAR: A Haji pilgrim from Sopore who returned from Hajj on Tuesday has passed away after battling a massive heart stroke. Sources told Kashmir Scroll that one Haji of the first batch returned from Hajj, namely Ghulam Mohammad Gojri, son of Mohammad Ramzan Gojri of Hygam Sopore, aged around 70 years old, suffered Brian haemorrhage at home. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors referred him to JVC Srinagar.

Despite the efforts of the medical staff, the pilgrim’s condition deteriorated rapidly; sadly, he succumbed to the illness today morning, thus leaving behind a shocked and grieving community, they said Meanwhile, a family member of the deceased Haji also confirmed this sad news to Kashmir Scroll, saying he lost his breath today morning at SKIMS medical institute Srinagar.(KS)

SRINAGAR: A lady tried to end her life by jumping into river Jhelum in Sopore area of North Kashmir Baramulla district on Saturday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a lady jumped into river Jhelum near Chankhan Bridge.

 He said that timely action of the locals and police saved her from drowning. Meanwhile further investigations have been taken up.(KS)

SRINAGAR: A boy drowned in river Phuroo in Seer Jagir area of Sopore in Baramulla North Kashmir district even as he has been hospitalized.

An official told news agency, Kashmir Scroll that a student of 9th standard namely Aazim Ahmad Guroo son of Suhail Ahmad Guroo resident of Seer Jagir Ghat drowned into river Phuroo at Alsafa colony Sopore while bathing.

He said that locals and police took him to hospital Sopore in unconscious condition. (KS)
