SRINAGAR: Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajiv Omprakash Pande appealed to the youth to remain cautious and not give up to the peer pressure or persuasion from anyone to try the drugs. 

Talking to GNS on the sidelines of a drug de-addiction event held by District Legal Services Authority Srinagar in unison with Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) 'Kashmir Concern' & 'White Globe', the senior cop thanked the lawyer fraternity for organising the event. 

"...Kindly take this message from J&K Police, from the DLSA and the Civil Society of J&K to the people that those who get trapped in drug abuse, tell them to say no even to 'first try'... Never ever go for the 'first try', because it a trap."

"If you do so, you are going to get trapped into this and this (trap) will lead you towards a very dangerous kind of end to your life," Pande said while urging the media to take this message to the people. 

Reiterating, Pande said, "Don't simply go for 'first try' on the persuasion of your friends on any other relative, regarding any synthetic drug or any other drug, kindly refraction from any such act." (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A youth was killed, while another was injured on Friday after a mortar shell exploded in Samba district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that one youth namely Pawan Singh (19) son of Kuldeep Singh resident of village Chandli  died and another youth Roshan Singh ( 29) son of Kaka Singh resident of village Chandli sustained splinter injuries when Mortar shell they were reportedly fiddling with exploded in the forest area of village Chandli in the J/D of PP Goran ,PS Samba today around 5:00 p.m. Injured referred to GMC Jammu.

Meanwhile a case has been registered in this regard and investigation has been taken up. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: An 18-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious conditions in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Monday morning.

Reports reaching News Agency Kashmir Scroll said that an 18-year-old youth (name withheld), a resident of Sail Beerwah, was lying outside his house with injuries mark on his head and ear.

Sources told News Agency Kashmir Scroll suspected that the injured has been allegedly murdered.

Meanwhile, police took cognizance of this incident. (KS)

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed the detention of a North Kashmir labourer under the contentious Public Safety Act (PSA).

Senior Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak representing the incarcerated student informed that the detention of 22-year-old labouer Muhammad Iliyas Dar, a resident of Rahpora Khudwani village of Kulgam was quashed by the court of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul nearly over a year after he was arrested on charges of allegedly indulging in anti-national activities in May 2022 and simultaneously booked under the PSA.

The accused was put behind bars in an old FIR lodged against him by Kulgam police in 2021. He is currently languishing at Haryana jail in Gurgaon.

The court of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul after hearing the arguments of Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak directed authorities to release him from the Jail. Advocate Tak pleaded that the detenue was not provided any material even after his arrest. [KNT]

SRINAGAR: A 32-year-old man dies by suicide by hanging himself at his home in Sopore village of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

An official told Kashmir Scroll that a 32-year-old man was found hanging in his room in the Wagub area of Sopore on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, police has started an investigation into this case. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A 18-year-old boy allegedly hanged himself to death at his home in Paniwah area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district.

An official told Kashmir Scroll that on receving information, police officials rushed to the spot and the body of the deceased was taken to DH Kulgam.

The body of the deceased will be handed over to his family members for the last rites after completing all legal formalities.(KS)

SRINAGAR: Body of a 25-year-old youth was found in Kotranka area in Rajouri district, officials said.

They told GNS that body of one Shabir Ahmad, son of Shakeel Ahmad, a resident of Samote Budhal was found lying opposite to Jamia Masjid Kotranka. 

"A police team reached the site soon after and took the body into its possession", they said. 

Confirming it, SHO Kotranka Shakil Manhas told GNS that they have registered a case under section 174 CRPC to ascertain the cause of death of the youth. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: A Youth died after accidentally slipping in Sindh Nallah in Mammer area of Central Kashmir's Genderbal district on Tuesday.

An official told news agency, Kashmir Scroll that Zakir Ahmad Thekri Son of Ghulam Qadir Thekri slipped and drowned in Sindh Nallah at Kangan. He said soon after the incident a police team along with locals launched a rescue operation.

He said that efforts are on to retrieve his body.

Police have taken cognizance in this regard. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A non-local labourer was injured after he was hit by a vehicle in Sail area of South Awantipora in Pulwama district on Monday.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Scroll that one non-local namely Mohammad saeed Son of Ala Din resident of Bihar was hit by a vehicle (Venue Car) bearing reg no Jk03J 0897 near Sail chersoo on NHW . They said labour has received critical injuries and has been shifted to PHC Awantipora for the treatment, they said. 

Meanwhile police have taken cognizance of the incident and started investigation.(KS)

SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday said that it has detained a youth whose video went viral while performing dangerous stunts on bike in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that in response to a concerning video circulating on social media, showcasing a local youth from Pakherpora, Budgam, performing dangerous stunts on a public road, the Budgam Police took swift action and detained the rider responsible. The individual has been identified as Amir Rashid Wagay, son of Abdul Rashid Wagay, a resident of Khaigam Pulwama.

According to police spokesman, Amir Rashid Wagay's reckless behaviour, as displayed in the video, not only posed a significant threat to his own life but also endangered the safety of pedestrians and other road users. Upon his detention, Amir Rashid Wagay was booked under relevant sections of MV Act. Furthermore, the bike used in the dangerous stunts, found without a number plate and proper documents, was also seized.  

Budgam Police urges parents and guardians to take a proactive role in supervising and guiding the activities of their wards and encourages members of the public to report any similar incidents promptly, reads the statement. (GNS)

The accused have been identified as Hammad Khan, Baazil Khan and Majid Khan, all residents of the Sariabala area of Srinagar, who have been arrested for stabbing two youths in Exhibition Ground, police said in a Sunday night tweet.

Three knives used in the offence were also recovered, police said, adding that a case under relevant sections of the law stands registered in Police Station Shergari.

"Accused Hammad Khan S/o Late Javid Ahmed, Baazil Khan S/o Lt. Javid Ahmed and Majid Khan S/o Late Mohd Afzal Khan all from Sariabala, were arrested for stabbing two youths in Exhibition Ground. Three knives used in the crime were recovered. FIR No 40/2023 u/s 341,307 IPC in Shergari PS", Srinagar police said in a tweet.

The incidents of stabbing have witnessed an increase in Srinagar and other areas over the past few years.

More than a dozen cases of stabbing were reported from various areas of Srinagar.

In wake of recent stabbing incidents in many areas of Srinagar, the district administration on July 21 imposed a ban on the sale, purchase, and carrying of "Sharp-edged weapons" in public places. (UNI)
