SRINAGAR: A non-local person was charred to death as a massive overnight blaze ravaged through a shopping complex and a hotel at Batergam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district.

Reliable sources told GNS that a shopping complex comprising several shops and a hotel were caught in a massive blaze during the intervening Monday and Tuesday night. 

"In the incident, a tailor from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Firoz Ahmed, was stuck inside and by the time the fire was controlled the person was tragically charred to death," the sources said. 

Confirming the death of the non-local in the incident, a police official told GNS that a team has already been on the spot to collect necessary details regarding the incident. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Flashfloods, triggered by torrential rains, have caused widespread damage to standing crops and orchards in various villages of Lolab belt.

Reports reaching GNS said that villages including Gundmachar, Khurhama and Shalagund witnessed damage to agricultural crops and orchards due to flashfloods. Several roads have also suffered damage. 

The inhabitants have appealed the authorities to assess the loss caused and accordingly compensate the victims. 

When contacted, Inam-ul-Maqbool Sogam Tehsildar, also holding the charge for Lalpora, told GNS that his office has deputed the teams to assess the ground situation in the wake of the flashfloods. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Industrial area in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district facing blackout after a major lightening struck to damage a 6.3 MVA transformer on Tuesday night.

An official told Kashmir Scroll that the lightning strikes accompanied with heavy rainfall on Tuesday night destroyed the transformer forced the whole area to undergo an imminent blackout.

Meanwhile, A PDD official told news agency,  Kashmir Scroll that a team will visit the spot today and at earliest the electricity will be restored in the area. Pertinently, Kashmir parts on Tuesday night witnessed heavy rainfall followed lightining.(KS)

SRINAGAR: The cracks were developed in some houses and government girls' high school after a 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon.

"Tremors were felt when 5.4 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Doda district," an official said.

He said that no injury was reported from any part but some houses and a school building developed some cracks.

He said that the region of the quake was Eastern Kashmir, 33.32 N; 75.85 E and a depth 60 kilometres covering a distance of 113 km North East of Jammu. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: A complex was partially damaged in a fire mishap in Bemina Gousiya Colony area Central Kashmir Srinagar district on Monday.

Reports reaching news agency, Kashmir Scroll that during night fire broke out at dental Glaze clinic at Gousiya colony Bemina.

They said that soon after fire broke out locals, fire tenders, police rushed to the spot and doused off the fire. In the incident Glaze clinic suffered partial damage, they said, adding that, further investigation has been taken up. (KS)

SRINAGAR: A residential house was damaged in a fire mishap in Bemina area in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

They told GNS that a fire broke out in a single-storey residential house at Firdous Colony Bemina Srinagar, damaging its attic and roof.

“The timely response from the F&ES official prevented the fire from spreading further”, he added. (GNS)
