                                    <description><![CDATA[<p>SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today felicitated the winners of ‘Jashn-e-Dal’, a Water Sports event organized by Jammu Kashmir Police, at Srinagar.</p>
<p>700 participants competed in 20 categories of Kayaking, Canoeing and Slalom discipline during the three-day long event.</p>

The ongoing sports activities give us hope and confidence that our players can produce path-breaking achievements,” said the Lt Governor.</p>
<p>The vibrant sports culture reflects the image of aspirational J&amp;K, which is determined to build a better future for the young generation. Our athletes will play a significant role in this task and contribute in building a strong and prosperous Jammu Kashmir, he added.</p>
<p>The Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the UT Administration to provide world class facilities, coaching and mentoring to the young sporting talents of Jammu Kashmir.</p>
<p> “We are building new sporting future of J&amp;K. It is our collective responsibility to empower our sportspersons, help the hidden talents in the villages so that they can script shining successes in international sporting events,” said the Lt Governor.</p>
<p>The Lt Governor made a special mention of sports personalities from J&amp;K for bringing laurels to the nation at the world stage. He also appreciated the efforts of the sports associations and stakeholder departments for the promotion of sports in the UT.</p>
<p>The Lt Governor also called upon the people, especially the youth to discharge their duties and to contribute in Swachhta Abhiyan.</p>
<p>At the closing ceremony, the Lt Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and interacted with the players.</p>

                <title>Ganderbal Girl Secures First Position in U-17 UT-level Cycling C'ship</title>
                                    <description><![CDATA[SRINAGAR: Soliha Zahoor of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district secured first position in the recently held Union Territory Cycling Championship at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu. 

Soliha, daughter of Zahoor Ahmad, participated in the 'Women Elite' age group of the Championship from March 21 to March 22, 2023. 

Braving the stiff competition from other participants, Soliha with her sheer agility prevailed towards the end to secure the first position. 

Notably, the Championship was organized by the Cycling Association of J&amp;K which is affiliated to the Cycling Federation of India and recognized by the J&amp;K Sports Council and J&amp;K Olympic Association. 

Meanwhile many sections of society have hailed Soliha for the remarkable feat and also wished her the best for future endeavors. (GNS)]]></description>

                <title>J&amp;K Sports Council Celebrates International Women's Day</title>
                                    <description><![CDATA[SRINAGAR: International Women's Day celebrations were held at Indoor Sports Complex Polo-ground Srinagar here today.

Hundreds of female athletes accompanied by their families participated in the programme. Athletes from various districts were also part of the programme including a good number of Khelo India Centre registered trainees as well, accompanied by the mentors.

The programme began with the demo by players from the games of Pencak Silat, Yogasana, Thang Ta, Sqay Martial Art who had also participated in the events including Khelo India.

The Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir, Nuzhat Farooq presided over the function as chief guest while as Kabra Altaf, member J&amp;K Sports Council was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Nuzhat Farooq said that women have immensely contributed in making a robust and pragmatic society and that this programme is just a token of appreciation and gratitude to all the women for the different roles they are playing with perfection.

Female athletes and others highlighted the experience and contribution they are making for upliftment of society on various levels and brought attention towards the value addition that they as women have made in different fields.

                <title>JK RAW Powerlifting Team Wins Five Medals, made to the National Record</title>
                                    <description><![CDATA[J&amp;K 100% RAW Powerlifting team won five medals in the recently concluded 5th National Powerlifting Single Lift Bench Press Deadlift &amp; Strick Curl Championship at Karnal in Haryana from 10th to 12th March 2023.

The team was honoured by Jagpreet Singh Chairman, Prisident RAW Powerlifting Federation of India. The officials of the J&amp;K RAW Powerlifting Association, Chairman, Anees Ahmad Chowdary lauded the efforts of the medal winner.

Bashir Ahmad Sheikh in the category of 82.5 kg won gold medal in Deadlift and made it to the National record while as Saima Majeed in the category of 67.5 kg secured Gold medal in Bench Press and Bilal Ahmad Rah in the 100Kg Catagory won Silver in Strict Curl event while as Rabia Gulzar in the 75 kg won Silver in Deadlift and Ishfaq Ahmad Khan 82 kg got Silver in Bench Press. 

Bashir Ahmad Sheikh of Srinagar working in Education Department Kashmir as well created history and set a new record in the recently concluded 5th National RAW Powerlifting Championship.

"I have participated in the Local Championships and then National Championship. My aim now is to represent India in the World Championship," Bashir said.

The State team participated in the championship under the banner J&amp;K RAW Powerlifting Association. Medal Winners were selected for the forthcoming RAW Powerlifting world Championship.
