SRINAGAR: Police on Saturday refuted a report circulated on some social media platforms about an encounter in Lakdipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that fake news is being circulated on social media platforms that Encounter has started at Lakdipora . It is totally fake and baseless , no such incident has taken place in the district.

General Public is requested not to pay heed on rumours. Rumour mongers shall be dealt strictly under law -- kulgam police, reads the statement. (GNS)

Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chotigam.

As the joint team of forces encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

SRINAGAR: Militants managed to give slip to security forces after a brief exchange of fire in Hadigam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

A top police officer, while confirming to GNS, said that after brief exchange of fire on Wednesday there was complete lull.

Due to darkness, the operation was suspended throughout the night. As soon as the first light of the morning came in, the search operation was resumed. During searches, no militant was found at the encounter site, the officer said.

It seems militants might have escaped during the initial exchange of fire taking advantage of the darkness, the officer added.

Earlier on Wednesday, a joint team of Police and the army launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

As the joint team of forces zeroed towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired on the joint team, which was retaliated, triggering off a gunfight.(GNS)

SRINAGAR: A newly recruited local militant affiliated with Lashkar-i-Toiba oufit was killed in a gunfight on Thursday night with security forces in Arihal area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A top police officer told GNS that during firefight one local LeT militant namely Kifayat Ayoub Alie son of Mohd Ayoub Alie resident of Pinjoora Shopian was killed.

From his possession, one pistol, two grenades, two magazines and five rounds were recovered. He had joined the outfit on 04th October this year, the officer added.

On Thrusday evening, a gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Arihal area. (GNS)

A senior police officer, while confirming to GNS that one militant has been killed, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

RINAGAR: One militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter at Behrot in Budhal area of Rajouri district on Friday.

Official sources told GNS, that one militant has been killed in an ongoing encounter, however identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.

A senior police officer told GNS that a team of Police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Samnoo area on a very specific input.

As the joint team approached towards the suspected area, the hiding militants fired upon the joint party, leading to an encounter, the officer added.

SRINAGAR: A militant has been killed in an encounter with security forces in Kathohalan area of south Kashmir's Shopian district. 

Taking to microblogging site 'X', previously Twitter, Kashmir Zone Police wrote; "One (01) #terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit TRF neutralised. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. 

"Search going on. Further details shall follow", it wrote further. 

The slain militant has been identified as Maysar Ahmad Dar, a recently recruited militant, hailing from Veshro in Shopian. (GNS)

SRINAGAR: Police and army on Thursday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control by killing five militants in a gunfight in Kupwara district.

“Based on an intelligence input generated by Kupwara Police, an infiltration bid was successfully foiled in a joint operation launched by Police & Army along the Line of Control in Machil Sector of Kupwara district,” a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS. In this “swift and coordinated operation”, he said, five militants were neutralized.

“After receiving the intelligence input, the joint party of Kupwara police and Army (56RR) swiftly launched anti-terrorist operation during the intervening night of 25-26th October at Sardari Nar area along the Line of Control in Machil Sector,” he said, adding, “Besides, multiple ambushes were laid by the joint teams along the LoC.”

On Thursday, he said, the joint team observed movement of militants in the thick dense forests of the area “who taking advantage of difficult terrain infiltrated to our side”. 

Employing “meticulous” tactics, he said, the militants were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the killing of five unidentified militants linked with LeT, he said.  

The identification of the killed militants is being ascertained, he said. “Huge cache of arms and ammunition including five (05) AK rifles & other incriminating materials have been recovered from the site of encounter.”   

All the recovered materials, he said, have been taken into case records for further investigation. 

In this regard, he said, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. “Extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.”

Meanwhile ADGP Kashmir appreciated the role Kupwara Police for generating the actionable input and the role of joint forces for swiftly tracking and neutralizing the infiltrating militants to “defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements who are hellbent to disrupt peace and harmony in the valley.” (GNS)

Taking to microblogging site 'X' (formerly Twitter), Kashmir Police Zone Police wrote; "Based on a specific information provided by Kupwara Police, an #encounter has started in Machhal sector in which two #terrorists have been killed so far."
