SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday said that the last hope of revocation of Article 370 is on Supreme court.

“Only two can revoke the article 370 either the present dispensation or the Supreme Court”, Azad told media persons in Srinagar on Monday.

However, he said that we could not have expectations from the present government as they have abrogated it.

“There is a last hope from the Supreme Court which could revoke the Article 370”, he added.

He said he had been to Delhi recently where he spent some time with Congress leader and leading lawyer Kapil Sibal who represented the case of 1.50 Crore people in the Supreme Court efficiently.

“Let us pray to the Almighty and keep hope for the best”, he added. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Stating that agenda of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) is to serve people with honesty, party Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday asked cadre to hold public meetings and reach out to people.

“All my workers shall hold the public meetings and reach out to people in their respective areas,” Azad said while meeting party workers here.

More than 50 workers from Congress joined the DPAP in the presence of Azad, who also met deputations from Marh and directed them to increase their footprints at booth level to expand the party cadre.

Azad said,” it is the duty of all workers to hold booth level meetings in their respective areas and ensure maximum people are joining the party and understanding the party agenda.”

He said, “joining on a day to day basis is reflecting that people have not only understood our agenda but endorse it and this will help us to serve the people in a better way in the long run.”

“Our agenda is serving people with honesty and integrity,” he said. (UNI)

SRINAGAR: Stating that Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) will continue to strive for redressal of all issues of concern to people, its Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday said that only his party has a clear roadmap of development for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Be it smart meters, ration curtailment, land eviction, electricity and potable water problems, DPAP has only one agenda which is to strive hard for redressal of all grievances of general masses of Jammu and Kashmir,” Azad said addressing a public gathering at Bulandpur in Assar area of Doda district.

Reminding the people of his tenure as Chief Minister which lasted for just two and half years, he assured residents that DPAP means development and progress of the public in Jammu and Kashmir.

“What makes us (DPAP) different is our ideology and agenda of development without any bias and prejudice of religion and region,” Azad said during his third day of the erstwhile Doda district tour.

Stressing upon discipline and dedication among party workers, he made it clear to them that only those will survive and thrive in DPAP who work at grassroots level rather than hanker for posts.

“DPAP has one motto which is to work for the welfare of people at grassroots level. There is no place for indolent leaders and workers as accountability is the essence of our existence in the political sphere of J&K,” he affirmed.

Emphasising the grant of rights on land, jobs, resources, the former Chief Minister said that DPAP if elected would ensure that natives of Jammu and Kashmir would get their basic rights, which are very dear to them, back and reverse the decisions on these crucial issues to people.

“Being a landlocked place and border area, Jammu and Kashmir youth have no employment avenues while the people bore the brunt of violence during 33 years of terrorism, its economy also suffered badly making it difficult to sustain livelihood,” he said. (UNI)

SRINAGAR:  Ghulam Nabi Azad led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has expelled Haji Abdul Rashid from primary membership of the party.

“Ghulam Nabi Azad Chairman DPAP has expelled Haji Abdul Rashid Ex MLA, from the primary membership of the party, for anti party activities”, reads a communiqué, a copy of which lies with GNS.

Notably, Haji Abdul Rashid had joined the Azad led DPAP recently. (GNS)

LSRINAGAR: Congress leader Saifuddin Soz on Tuesday said that Ghulam Nabi Azad showed an 'extreme act of disloyalty' to Congress.

  Saifuddin Soz said Azad cannot convince the people that he was justified in his "extreme act of disloyalty" to the party.

   In a statement to KNT, Soz said he feels sad about Azad showing himself in poor light at the fag end of his political career.

    "The feeling is widespread that Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad deserted the Congress party, at last, which had bestowed upon him so many honours, all through his career. The general run of people, especially the people in Jammu and Kashmir, assert the fact that Mr. Azad cannot convince the people that he was justified for this extreme act of disloyalty to the Congress," Soz said.

   “The other public reaction is that Azad is seen moving closer to the BJP and his participation in electoral politics will cause division of votes, particularly in Jammu province, which will result in indirect support to the BJP,”  the former Union minister said adding that this seems to be an organized effort."

    Soz said ultimately the Congress will not suffer any setback as the people think that Azad's action constitutes "extreme disloyalty" to the party which had accorded dignified positions to him all through his political career.

   "People also feel that Mr. Azad's action against the Congress has come at a time when the party is leading the campaign against fascist forces in India," he said.

    “The common people's feeling is that Azad's political stature has received a "setback" which can never be repaired, Soz said. Azad will soon start feeling the effects of the social and political wilderness of "unimaginable proportions", he said. (KNT)
